What isthe best way to cleant the carpets on the decks and the seating area? A buddy of mine sprays resolve then just hoses off. Not sure if that is such a great idea. What are you guys doing.
I am no carpet guru but heres what I did- I have done the vinegar and water thing, water only, car wash soap, and resolve. The 50/50 vinegar thing afer the carpets are soaked with a hose leaves a clean carpet and allows me to pull the knapp? up nicely but the vinegar smell is not exactly what I am looking for in a boat… What I liked best is to: 1) get the carpet real wet with a hose on a warm/hot day 2) spray resolve all over the thing 3) get out two plastic bristle brushes that you can put in your hands(each of them) 4) Commence to scrubbing and pulling the knapp up- youll be sore the next day. 5) Rinse again with hose- totally soaked again. 6) Wet vac(watch the tube on the vac and make sure it doesnt rub the top cap too hard) 7) Put 5 towels in area in front of seats- low spot that doesnt get much sun Put/prop all the doors up and raise the tonge way up. 9) Cook in sun. I liked the resolve carpet cleaner because the carpet stayed nice for awhile. C.O.D. Jr. III
Ward – how much is the cleaning service these days? Since I sold my boat yesterday, I am sure you appreciate catching hell from boatless bank trash.
For you for free. Major issue is having the time built up to do it!C.O.D. Jr. III
That was a nice explanation there Ward. BCB Admin.
One thing to add is – if you have hard water at home you might want to use something that takes the hardness out. It will make your carpet very stiff. My water is pretty good but I used the Mr Clean autodry kit /spot free. Once you get done cleaning the carpet and rinsing thoroughly – take a wet vac and get as much water out as possible. Then take the spot free rinse and go crazy with it. They advertise that they are only good for about 3 car washes so if you spray a lot of water thru it youll need to replace it before washing your car/truck/boat again. Another thing that will help make your carpet soft is using woolite . Probably not that great for getting out those tough stains/dirt but leaves the carpet nice and soft.FISH ON!
I just did this yesterday and it was a breeze. I bought a spray bottle of purple power from walmart, and did the deck in small sections. A little purple power and alot of water go along way, use a hard bristle brush and get to scrubbing. It will sud up very well and the brush pulls the carpet back up and makes it look great. Then rinse very throroughly, you will have alot alot of soap bubbles in the boat so use lots of water, rmember to pull the plug, i used my garden hose with a medium fog spray setting, do not use a straight stream or power washer on the carpet. Then once all the soap was removed use the brush again to funnell the remaining water out of the carpet. Mine was almost completely dry within 4 hours of completion. I opened all the hatches to aid in the drying process. Decks came out vey clean and smelled good as well. Total time was about 35 minutes to complete my P4.
I use Cascade automatic dishwasher soap. It cuts grease and blood. It does not suds up. Mix the powder in a bucket of warm water and brush it in. Rinse and wet vac (if you have one).
If time is an issue, you can usually rent a steam vac at a grocery store or hardware store for not a lot of money. The cleaner is typically included in the rental price. I try and do this once a year and its worked well for my carpets. Chip
Has anyone ever tried Chem Dry?
