I need to replace the bow strap on my 2012 Cougar. Somehow the locking hook it got damaged so I need to replace it. With the stem being welded onto the post where the winch is mounted, I can’t figure out how to get o the bolts that hold the winch down or the bolt that anchors the strap itself. Any ideas?

I don’t have the step over my winch post like yours, but I did replace my Fulton winch a year ago. What you will need to do is remove the handle, and then remove the bolts that sandwich the cover on. Once you do that, you can get a wrench on the bolts on the winch frame to the post. Its a bit tedious but not really all that hard. Should take you less than 20 minutes if you are removing and replacing with new. If you are just replacing the strap, you’ll have some additional disassembly to do and it may take slightly longer.

I have the same exact setup as you and had it apart earlier this winter so I’m not understanding the difficulty. I first removed the three bolts that attach the ratchet unit to the bottom plate and freed it from the mounting arm. I then removed the through bolt holding the winch inside its plastic housing and pulled it out of the housing giving me access to the strap. Other than some rust, I thought it was straightforward although as usual, it went back together just a little more difficult than disassembly. 🙂
