Topic: Changing MK Trolling Motor?????

Im looking for some advice on changing my MK trolling motor from a 42″ to a 52″ shaft on my 06 Puma? If I use the existing bolt holes the back end of the trolling motor base rides up on the hump for the panel where the ACC, Motor Trim & Light switch plate is mounted. Do I want to try to shim under the base to make it level or do I need to move all 2 1/2″ foward and drill new holes? Im wondering if I drill the new holes foward, if its not going to be to close to the front edge and put the motor to far out in front of the boat. Anyone with knowledge of doing this switch? Thanks for any help ahead of time.

My 06 BCB had trimmed the back right corner of the mount to allow it to sit level on the pad for the troller. You can sort of see the cut out in this picture and it is the best one I have. Judd Lasiter

Thanks Judd!! That makes a lot of sense. I think thats a lot better then trying to shim or drilling new holes. I knew if I asked on here, Id get someone that had dealt with this before. It sure is a great thing to have this message board. Im always learning from you all. Ill start trimming tomorrow evening.

Judd of course got you the right answer. We trim that rear corner plastic so it sets flat.

I have one more question has anyone put a rubber washer or is it standard to use a rubber washer between the base and the gel coat or is this a bad idea? I have them in there now and it just barely keeps the base from touching the gel coat.

I have used the rubber washers before and prefer it but it really isnt necessary. What that mount will rub on is always going to be under it. Sounds like you are getting it close to mounting, that is great! JL
