My Lowrance X15mt quit reading the map chips so I am replacing with a HDS 7 Base. It came with a skimmer transducer and not a pod. My question is since the pod unit I had with the X15 worked fine can I just hook it up to the HDS 7 ?? The pod I have for the X15 has the temp prob to the back of the transom in the water and the skimmer doesnt have a temp prob. I know it looks and plugs in the same for both units. Also the Ethernet ENET and the Network sockets, are they just for hooking up multiple units together?? It has an internal GPS antenna so is the Sonar and Power/Data the only ones I need??
The HDS 7 needs a different transducer. The one on your old unit probably has grey connectors, and the HDS needs blue. The network connector is what you use to network other units or other options to your unit(s). This is where your network would be powered. I think the structure scan connects through this network. The ethernet lets another unit share the transducer. Hope this helps….Dennis S.
Thanks Dennis; Thats what I thought, was hoping I wouldnt have to change it. I would need a pod transducer to get the temp reading wouldnt I?? I know the X15 had a separate probe coming off the transducer that ran to the outside of the transom for the reading. Not sure about how mounting the skimmer unit in the bilge would be with the shape of it. Plus I definitely want the temp reading.
birddogman:before you change, check with Lowrance tech service, they may an adapter cable from grey to blue, or blue to red in some cases. Might be a call that will save you some work and still get the temp to work. Just a thought.pant 2Bob
It will not read the temp at all. The best pod transducer for your application is the PDRT which means it is a pod with remote temp, like you currently have. Take your time installing it following the instructions and it is no problem. Good luck!
