Hey Guys, I have recently purchased my first cat. An 03 Cougar FTD! Im in love with the boat already and look forward to a great future with BCB. Id love to upgrade my old MG 24v TM to a MK 36v trolling motor. My questions are: How much work will it be to get the 3rd TM battery in the back , Will the Minn Kota mounting bracket fit to where my Motorgruide bracket holes are? Many more questions to come, but for now, this is #1 on the list of things to do. Thanks for your help! -Thomas
IMHO I wouldnt want to add a 3rd battery because of the weight it would add to the boat. The 80lb MK would be enough I think. Then again Im not trolling for miles upriver against the wind either. Good Luck
dont thik you will have much trouble putting 4 batteries in teh back of your cougar I have a 2001 cougar and run 4 batteries in mine but I am also using optima blue tops and the battery tray was rebuilt and they all fit in the tray along passenger side gass tank…IF ITS NOT A CAT ITS A DOG BASSCAT BOATS 2001 COUGAR 225 YAMAHA….www.dropshotdennys.com
i have pantera III w/three batterys, all deep cycle w/1000 cranking amps and have never had a loss of power on my motorguide 109.just a thought but you may not have to add a fourth batt.for a 36 volt t/m.also your mounting holes will very some from a motorguide bracket to a minnkota bracket but should be no problem to overcome.

Are you running your tm off of your cranking battery also.
Most do and a quality cranking battery will handle that load. The problem is most cranking batteries will not meet the specs for operation of the boat accessories.
If Im using a group 27 battery, deep cycle for cranking do you think Id be ok? I have room for another battery though, so that would be the best thing to do.Last edited by SCOTAKNS on January 30th, 2009, 2:10 am, edited 1 time in total.
I have an optima blue top as my cranking battery, so I am assuming it can handle the load. At the same time, I am running a 997si unit and a x-27 on the same battery. I would be somewhat nervous about all these electronics AND the TM feeding off of it. With that load, would it still be safe to run on only 3 batteries?
i first ran a motorguide 36v on a 97 pantera II w/three batterys all deep cycle group 27,then on an 01 p-III my electronics are a pinpoint graph w/zercom flasher on the console w/a pinpoint on the bow.just out of habit i kill my console electronics while fishing but have never “ran” out of juice during a day of fishing, including running livewells, lights at night or fishing in heavy wind.hope this helps some.
