I have the prosport 8 on board charger but only get a blinking green light when plugged up. If I am reading the manual right it is not working? Do I have a bad charger? If so it was a lemon from get go as it just had batteries hooked to it a couple of weeks ago. what do I need to do?
I think I would call the manufacturer and see if it is hooked up right. They should be able to answer any questions you have. Good luck.
We would Warranty that charger on a new boat through your dealership. No sweat!
Well that is a problem then isnt it. This boat was won last August but never put in the water never had batteries until about 2-3 weeks ago when i bought it from them. It was keep in a garage until they sold it to me. Today the rod locker lock broke off. I am really wondering if I got a lemon.
Just contact BCB on monday, (870)-481-5135. If you did not get through dealer but through individual, I would just give them(BC) a call. Did the boat come rigged with an engine? Never heard of rod locker issue, maybe it was not tightened originally. BCB will try to help. Good luck.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Probably just a cam arm which are replaceable. We dont build the actual charger, though buy that component as do all other boat mfgs. That cam arm or latch may have been stressed during the ownership of the prior party(ies) and that often happens when they are stepped on with the latch closed. You dont have a lemon. You have couple of issues on a boat that was won and has sat awhile, which did not get retail dealer prep as we suggest on prize packages. We will do whatever we can to assist. As we always do! Call Scott at Brech Marine in Selma, Al 334-875-3484. Take the boat to him and let him go through the boat. Fix your speedo leaking problem, electrical problem, and the issue with the locker latch. These are all components installed by BCB but not manufactured by them. They will take care of you. You dont have a lemon. All boats have small things go wrong at first. You will get the kinks worked out. ChetLast edited by Bama96 on April 13th, 2008, 9:35 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Brech did all the work on the boat when I bought it. They installed tm,depth finders, hot foot, protrim and batteries and hooked up the chargers. They did a great job. I cant afford to drive 3 hrs one way for this little stuff. I relocated the ecu as far as I could from the speedo cut the hose loose on the speedo and reattached the hose and added silicone for good measure. Just a little frustrated with the charger crapping out on me seeing as how it has never been used. The lock broke at the stem right where it is enclosed in the plastic. I really doubt that any dealer would have caught the leaking speedo with out running the boat and having it short out which apparently takes running for a while before it starts leaking enough to short because both times it was after a good run down the lake when the water showed up in the ECU black box. I dried out the box real good and so far everything is working fine. I do love the boat it fishes great and rides great just aggravated about the charger not working.
The black box youre referring to must be the module for smart craft gauges. Chargers are the most unreliable equipment in the boating industry. In addition, it doesnt matter which brand you purchase. I will say though, that the Pro Pak chargers are about the best and the Pro Sport model that you have is about the worst. My buddy has gone through 5 of them in his 2006 model Champion. Youre a long way away from having a lemon! Good luck and hope you get your problems resolved.
Phil is right about both items. First, you do NOT have a lemon! I have been seriously tournament fishing since the early nineties, have owned a boat of one brand or another since the early 70s and was a Pro Staff angler for a terrific company for years. All boats have a few kinks and believe me, I am one of the most anal guys around and when I first had issues and hadnt realized that fact yet, it sent me off! LOL In your case, neither problem was a BCB problem, yet they will take care of you. One cant ask for much better service. As for the charger, here is some advice that works but most of todays anglers will not heed it. Onboard chargers IMHO are OK at best. Get yourself two good quality carry type manual chargers and use them for years probably with little to no issues. Do not mount them in the boat. Just hook them up and plug them in when you need to charge your batteries. Again IMHO, they actually do a better job of charging your batteries, too.
