I never unplug mine. I do switch the foot control switch to “off” from the normal “momentary” or “always on” positions. However, I dont do that due to fear of charger damage, but to simply make sure that the prop wont spin unless I turn that switch on and then roll the speed control knob off of zero. Note that if it is not a digital TM there is no circuit board electronics that could possibly be blown by a charger, the things handle 24/36 volts at 50+ amps in normal operation. No charger can produce that. Ive run both MK and MG TMs over the 35+ years, and have yet to have a TM issue caused by charging. In fact, I have never had a single TM failure electronics-wise. I have bent a couple of MG steel shafts, and an old MK power drive shaft. But thats been it. I wouldnt over-think and keep things simple. Just like I have always kept my boat plugged in when not on the water or being towed. The digital chargers are too good to not take advantage of all their features like eliminating stratification within the battery, etc.
