Chip out of hull from bad weather (and piloting)

After I braved some rough waters this last Monday I walked out to the garage today and looked under my boat and noticed a small chip that is located just under the passenger console on the bottom of the hull! The chip is slightly deep and here are some pics! I believe I put it there when I got hung up on my left fender (just a few scratches on the fender) as I was trying like heck to get out of the water (I should have never gone in the water)! Any suggestions for what I should do? Do I need to do anything? Is there a simple fix? Etc. This was posted on the BBC as well.

Not from a fender, though not a doubt that it has been on a rock or something has impacted it. We dont think this is from your rough water incident. You can place a tad bit of black gel coat in that area and it will be fine. There is not any damage we would concern ourselves with. BCB

BCB, thank you for the advice! Is there a way I can buy just a little Gel Coat from you guys, like a “vehicle paint chip kit”? -Steve

Give Parts a call tomorrow and they will get you fixed up. Might have your serial number handy as that will give them the exact match on the gel color. BCB

Thats definitely from impact whether in the water or from the highway. Highly unlikely that the fender caused this from getting hung up. Fill with resin or marine tex and color with a black magic market or paint.

Here is a little trick for ya. Mix a small amount of the resin and hardener put a small amount ( Just enough to fill the chip) in the center of the chipped out spot. take some 3″ wide clear scotch tape and place it over the chip out and resin smooth out the tape being careful to only apply slight pressure to the resin let it harden. When you remove the tape it should look like new.

And a very quick and totally cosmetic fix, color it with a black sharpie — no lie, itll look fine.

Thank you all for the responses! You all have some great ideas. I didnt think it would have been from the fender but road debris sounds like the best answer yet! I will more than likely wait until Spring before ordering the Gel Coat though because I need a little warmth to cure it and I just dont have that around here right now Thanks again for the responses!
