It is the nighest nothing I have seen in a while! Is ESPN making a statement about their commitment to and respect for our sport? My prediction when they bought B.A.S.S. was they would either take it to exceptional heights or treat it so-so. ESPN even gives their pool tournaments get better coverage. Oh, on that thought though, those female pool hustlers ARE much better to look at! LOL
???poor coverage??? Personally Im quite pleased with it…way better than when it used be covered the following week on TNN. Helicopter and the whole nine yards has got to be a pretty expensive proposition for ESPN. The fact is, bass fishing is just not all that appelaing to sports fans and probably will never be a top ratings deal for TV. One also has to realize that ESPN pretty much has to refrain from showing much live coverage because the guys that are dialed in wouldnt want specifics about their areas & techniques revealed too early on in the tournament.
So when does the “Westminster Kennel Club dog show” air?. How about those Retriever trials……….lots of air time for that Lab, yessiree!. I agree about the female pool sharks. And how many times can you watch poker matches with guys wearing sunglasses in a casino???????? I think they should have “live spot” segments throughout the day, recapping the previous day, a quick shot of the weather conditions at the time of the live spot, and an “unofficial” update of action, not just leaders but like a teaser(pick a favorite) at each segment. I think that would keep more interest and maybe even get new attention to stay tuned.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Well Folks, it looks like they might have brought their A game for the coverage. It actually has looked pretty good each morning!
I have watched some of it and also think the coverage is pretty darn good. Take Care JW
I too think the coverage is good, but could be better. I do like the Tundra commercials trying to get people interested in fishing, with the pros talking about their experiences while growing up. Having a “Mike and Mike in the morning” bit also helped. And we are getting some good shots, interviews, and seeing different techniques….just a typical bass fisherman wanting more I guess96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
OK, I am officially outvoted 1,000,000 to one, and concede that my opinion obviously isnt shared by the masses! (LOL) I am always Mr. Positive and didnt intend to sound negative but think ESPN could do a better job. What I meant is that each morning they are showing highlights from the previous day and running those same highlights back to back in two shows. Surely they could have put together enough copy for two completely separate shows. Secondly, it would seem they would be showing more live coverage of the current days action, possibly with a segment during the day. Lastly, it is surprising to me that the weigh-in will not be shown live and actually will not be shown until 10:00 p.m. Perhaps I am just expecting too much, and especially with todays technology thought they could do better and surely expected the weigh in to be live. I cant wait until next football season to watch the Super Bowl on Monday morning!
Basstar, you can watch live weigh-in on bassmaster classic 2008. Punch that into your computer and under the heading of live video you can watch it in real time. Hope that helps you a bit. pant 2 Bob
Last year all the complaints were about the live coverage, how ESPN was never in the right place at the right time, all the talking heads, very few live shot of guys catching fish. Its better on delay, because it gives them more time to edit together a show. I was at Pittsburgh in 2005, and the fact they were broadcasting the event live really cut into the flow of the weigh in and the first day took forever. I think it will be more enjoyable for the people who are there, and although I wish it would be on earlier, it should be a better production for the people watching tonight at 10:00.
The editing and length of duration of the event are critical factors in the delay.
