Topic: Cleaning out back compartment (oil, etc)?

Those that have been following my posts might know Ive installed new units on my Cat. The only thing I have left to do is mount the thru hull TDs and run the remote temp cord from it in to the live well. I thought Id clean out the entire back compartment really good sense Im gonna need to clean the area to mount the TD anyway. I bought some grease remover spray at the hardware store today. It shows that its fiberglass safe, but one would need to dilute 3:1 for fiberglass. My plan is just to spray things down really good back there, let it sit, and then hose it off. Sounds about right to yall? Any other suggested methods? Fluker

Just put some Tide in there and take it to the car wash and hose it out. All will be fine. BCB

Another thing you might try in the future is throwing a bar of Lava soap in the bilge area. Leave the soap in there, and it will keep your bilge clean and actually smells good in there too. If it seems dirty, you can put some water in the bilge before you head to the lake and let it slosh around on the trip. Drain water before going fishing, and youll have a clean bilge. I use simple green and dump a bunch of hot water in the bilge and let it soak for a couple of hours. Then tow the boat around a little to shake everything up. Once that is done I hit it with the garden hose till it all come clean.God Bless, Stephen

The Lava soap works well for prevetative cleaning, though the car wash and Tide or Foamy Gunk area quick.

Simple Green is good but I think Dawn Dishwater soap is the best it cut grease like nothing else, I have helped several in my club detail a new to them boat, and they come out great. Mix it fifty/fifty in a spray bottle and spray the area down. Hoses ect. and let it sit while you go to the car wash (power spray really helps). I have a power sprayer so it easier for me and I just put the sucker side of my spayer in the bottle and spary an heavy film on, we have a few brews and bam hit with the power. I do also use the lava soap trick

Automatic dishwasher soap also works great. Super strength it. It cuts grease real good. I use it to degrease engine blocks / parts.
