If you have a 06 Cougar and a 225 Yamaha HDPI will one of the 4 blade work? I use to run 4 blade on other boats. This came with a regular 3 blade Yamaha prop.

Moose you will need a Yamahammer hub kit but yes you can run a Trophy on one. Judd Lasiter

Thanks basschaser. Can you recommend (if later go to) a 4 blade prop for this kind of setup? Maybe the one that came on it is the best. I read about the setup of jack plate and all on this board but I still wonder when you say (I need some tweaking?) The times that I had little steering torque was with 4 blade on some OMC products in the past. I guess I got use to that. This 06 Cougar is running about low 70s with the 225 HPDI( boat loaded) with the stock 3 blade. I am starting to get use to the chine walking and steering adjustments but noticed the clearance props. Your close there Moose, so dont do anything to the propeller except tweak it some on the height. BCB

OK Thanks. Should I lower the engine first? I am about a fuzz below the jackplate mount (at the first notch) with the motor mount. Can you give me some idea of the RPM and speed I should expect for a fairly loaded boat. Say regular gear and 500 lbs in human weight (say not all mine). If I know about what to expect I can see results the next time I open up. Like I mentioned before, I am getting more use to chine walk. In fact, I was showing my son how to handle it. By the way,I have just about given up on the Yamaha speed gauge. The inlet in the motor keeps getting stopped up. The low 70s is by GPS. Any help is appreciated. Maybe the motor is about right, huh? Moose – What is the inner and outer jackplate relationship, measurement wise? I ran my Puma (realize it is a little different) w/ 225 HPDI about 3/8 to 5/8″ above flush and that is where it ran the best. Low 70s as you are loaded isnt bad at all though and you arent too far off. Somewhere between 5800 & 6000 RPM is where everyone runs those motors and until 06 their published max rpm was 5500 but since has been move to 6000. So I cant obviously tell you to run it up to 6000 but I did and most people who prop them do too. I hope that helps but you sound like you are darn close right now. JL

JL Thanks. My jackplate realtionship is the motor part of the jack plate is a fuzz below the outer part of the jackplate. I am wondering will the 06 Cougar and 225 HPDI reach mid 70s? Just wondering. I will look at RPM closer. Moose

You may want to raise it very slightly, very slightly. The height could come up about 1/4″ from what we are hearing?Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on June 21st, 2008, 1:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I checked it out the other day. I am about 71.5mph GPS at about 5500-5600 rpm. It says 25M on outside of the Yamaha prop. I am not sure how you tell the pitch on this one. I can probably get a little more out of it by having a little different trim or whatever. So if I raise it a little (be about flush at the jack plate then) would that help some? Moose
