I have cabelas guide wear and love it. I layer underneath and its fine most of the time it but in really frigid temps looking for something a little more. When temps get 20-30s feel I need something more insulated and then layer underneath that. Been looking at the Stormr Stryker Parka. Anyone have any reviews or something else they would recommend.
I have Stormr Typhoon and when you layer underneath its very warm
Just to let my BCB brothers know, Cabelas has a great sale on Guideware Extreme on sale for $199 each piece and free shipping. $431 and change with taxes. Best Ive seen with $100 off each (usually $299 each) for bib and parka. Ordered mine a few minutes ago and the colors even match my Cat! Merry Christmas to me……..
I would say if the Cabelas Guidewear isnt warm enough, you probably should be sitting at home! I have a BCB rainsuit, and have never been cold in it, even in 20 degree weather and have never used the inner liner! The BCB suit is very similar to Guidewear.
I am hoping BCB gets their rain suits shortly… much rather wear one of those with the BCB logo than the cabelas logo.. 🙂
Your just getting into the teaser temperature. We have a lot of folks waiting for the hard water season to start. …. .. Suiting up for that frosty fishing does take some serious consideration. You want to stay warm and dry in clothing that breaths and is free moving. If you are seriously looking for warm cold weather gear check out ice fishing clothing. Designed for use in cold damp weather. And most have floatation consideration built right into the gear. Freibill or iceclam are places to start. Im sure some Minnesota folks can chime in to help…..Stay warm dry and safePractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
Cabelas does have insulated and NON insulated in the guidewear . Not sure which one you have? Ive been considering getting the insulated set just to have, but it really doesnt get that cold where im at. Some of you guys would probably be fishing in shorts in my “cold weather”.
Ski pants. They are relatively cheap & SO stinking warm. I spent 2 days in Colorado in cold & snow and all I ever wore was a pair of thermals, and those pants. Never got cold. So now I wear them fishing. And the coats are just as warm. But you can wear whatever coat you want. But for warm pants, ski pants are the way to go. I got mine at Academy for like $40 on sale. Polar Fleece or Polar Edge something like that. Oh and good socks. Go on and spend $15 for one pair of those wigwam wool socks. Thats all you need. Just get yourself a snowmobile suit. If they can keep you warm at 80-100 mph during the dead of winter they will work just fine for fishing.

I have tried many different brands of suits over the years, and KLIM is the only brand I wear when I am out snowmobiling now. Made of Goretex, so it is windproof, waterproof, very light and non restricting. A good quality base layer underneath and then the suit. A mid layer if it is crazy cold. I dont fish much anymore in the extreme cold (too old for that ), but if I still did, I would be wearing my KLIM snowmobile suit. They are not cheap, but worth every dollar IMO. If I wanted something with floatation, I would look at the Mustang Ice Rider snowmobile suits.
