Are there any good web sites that have fishing reports for Columbus lake? Im trying to get ready for the Team Championship but have never seen the lake and dont know were to start or what to throw. I need all the help I can get. Thanks in advance

Columbus and Tombigbee Waterways are not easy to get information on. There are not many maps available and they do not cover the backwater. The best is to select one in the area, and use the Corp maps also. They have the channel and the freebie that the USACE has lightly covers the backwater. There is little on a good map there. Google Maps will give you and Idea of the area. And the backwater can be treacherous in areas. BCB

Be very careful when entering the “lakes” off the river. The depth can and will change rapidly. I never fished Columbus but I have fished Aliceville and Gainesville a lot. You usually can find a channel in them that will hold 10-15 ft. of water and 2-3 ft outside of them. Especially as you get toward the back side of the lakes. You should have a great time. BCC

I have fished Columbus on lots of occasions and BCB is right on as for the lack of good maps covering that area. Columbus is basically comprised of the main channel of the Tenn-Tombigbee Waterway and a series of backwater sloughs and canals. Use extreme caution when trying to run anywhere other than the main channels. The sloughs and canals are for the most part very shallow, stump filled areas. I think your best bet will be to find satellite images of the area on Google Earth or one of those type sites. Tibee creek is navigable and is fairly well marked but very tricky even though it is marked. The buoys run out after you get to a certain point upstream in Tibee. I can speak from experience since I have ruined a lower unit running on Columbus in the past. In Columbus for the most part you will be dealing with very shallow stained to muddy water. There is normally a flipping bite going on somewhere. Good luck and have a good time!
