I read this comment in a fishing report for Sam Rayburn from Saturday and it jumped out at me. This has not been my experience with these events in Louisiana or Texas but anythings possible. I figured someone would be compelled to comment here since the BassCat name is all over the Media Bass website. The post contained the following paragraph: “Went to the Media Bass weigh in and was very disappointed. What a poorly run event. No organization, no holding tanks and a terrible releasing program. I am afraid many fish brought in were killed. The weigh in was held on a picnic table, in front of the store, several yards from the lake. Not sure who can be contacted, but tournaments like this one sets fishing back. Media Bass (and also other tournaments) needs to be monitored and fined if future events are held in this manner. Personally, I am protesting their sponsors and Jackson Hill Marina. They will NOT be receiving any portion of my hard earned dollars until their standards are raised. I hope others will jump on board!” The link is: httphttp://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ width=”250″ height=”80″>http://www.justsayhi.com/bb/files/count … r=0&un=BCB OWNERS INVITATIONAL&size=normal&mo=03&da=27&yr=2007″ />http://assets.justsayhi.com/badges/521/ … 57ol3i.jpg” alt=”” style=”display: none;” height=”1″ width=”1″ />
I was not at that event but I have fished numerous Media Events over the years including several out of Jackson Hill. My experience has been the opposite. Everytime I fished at these events, they had a trailer set up like a stage where they did the weigh-in. It was nicer than most events as far as weigh-in goes. As far as the release of the fish…I cant attest to that but I believe they had a boat there for the releasing of the fish and I remember they had a holding tank. I always felt as though Media Bass did a very good job of running a tournament and representing BCB. Jason
Yes I was there and the weigh in was not held on a picnic table. There was a professionally made wind break on a 6 table with digital read outs. The weather was bad and rainy and mud everywhere so the weigh in was set up in front of the store on the pavement. There was a 8X8 Media Bass banner used as a back drop all the sponsors banners were in place as well. There were no holding tanks because the flights were spaced where there were very few people in line at a time and the fish were released immediately. No fish were lost. Media Bass takes pride in live release and will always insure that fish will be released and all actions taken to keep alive. Its funny how one person can make assumptions and stir up a lot of bull. Overall we had a great tournament on Saturday. 22.15 lbs won it. We paid 14 Places overall and 2 for big bass. It took 16.30 lbs to get a check. Thanks to all who participate in Media Bass and patronize our sponsors Mike Lott
If I werent so cynical in nature, I would venture that the poster (or imposter) who actually made the comment, had a chip on his shoulder with Media Bass. That, or a PETA person posing as an angler to begin attacking from the inside. We have spoken to the Director, and the owner of Media Bass. They were under poor conditions out of Jackson Hill. The location at Jackson Hill is not the best one at Rayburn, though it works out fine and is easy. The same portion stage and other items were used here that were used at the Big Bass Event on Conroe a few weeks back. This director has run many events and we do not think it was as poorly run as advertised. BCBLast edited by Bass Cat Boats on March 17th, 2009, 7:04 pm, edited 1 time in total.
sounds like someone maybe limited out on some “woodbass”?
Nice response Mike. Everyone knows youre first class dude. Jackson Hill gets muddy as heck and with that the best thing to do was weigh in by the lot. Its happened like that a ton of times with 100% release rates.
Thanks for the follow-ups on this guys. My concern was the accuracy of the post and the reputation of those associated…not to mention the implication that one of the greatest fisheries of the state of Texas may have been abused. My association and experience with Media Bass has been quite the opposite so I was compelled to ask. My experience with our BCB family over the years is that we are greatly comprised of conservation-minded people that wouldnt stand for anything similar to what was acused in that post. Thanks to everyone who understood where I was coming from with this post, just doing my part as we all expect each other to do. As for Rick, or whoever made those contacts to verify the accusation, I dont think there are finer people in the business than the BCB folks! I know there are many who wouldnt have made those calls that quick, if at all, not to mention taking the time to post a reply on that website. Thanks to you too! The folks at Jackson Hill are pretty cool people. Ive eaten breakfeast ther a couple of times & I think they run a pretty good operation. I was ther a couple of weeks ago and learned they are the location to take your Share Lunker for the that program (13lbs. or bigger program). I dont think the state of Tx. would allow them to be the one without checking them out. As for the Media Bass circuit, I dont fish it but have several buddies that do and they say nothing but good things about how it is run. As matter of fact, Im thinkin next year Ill start fishing it.
