Does anybody have any pictures that show the mounting locations for compartment lights (for rod lockers and center compartment for pantera classic). I am about to start this project, but I want to mount the lights and mercury switches in the factory locations. Thanks for your help. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Kent, they rivet with Avdel moisture resistant rivets, Under the box lips outside in the hinge area. You can out them about anywhere on that flat underside. Place them to where the switch fits on the brace toward the rear and the light wire stub does not have to be lengthened if you can get the switch and light string in that range.
Thanks for the help BCB. Where would I get those Advel moisture resistant rivets. I didnt see any moisture resistant rivets at my local Lowes when I was there this afternoon. Do I need to use any silicone with these rivets, or will they keep water out without silicone. I did buy some 1/8″ aluminum rivets. Thanks again KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
We have them and Parts could drop them to you in an envelope.
Thanks again BCB. Ill call Scott next week. Anyone with pictures would be appreciated. Thanks everyone KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Kent, just to give you another option…….What I did was to place a small amount of resin on each rivet after the job was complete. Just leave the lids open until dry and youre good to go. You cant go wrong with BCB original manufacturers parts though. Good luck with your project.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Will I need to remove the compartment lids and install the rivets from the top. Thanks KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
No need to do that. Simply decide where to install the first light in the string, mark it and then stretch the string out with very little slack, mark the other spots. This will have to be done from inside of the box. You will notice a “flat spot” between the lip of the box and where it then goes upward as the top cap. Drill and place your string toward the back of this “flat spot”. Then drill each hole from inside the box with 1/8″ bit and then install rivets from inside the box. Heres a tip…..sacrifice a drill bit by breaking it into a small bit so that when you put it into your drill it will be very short allowing more room for your drill inside the box. Is there a dealer close to you where you can go see one with lights installed? I wont have a digital camera until Govt. sends me that economic stimulus check. Gotta help the economy you know.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
JEH, I did go over to H2O Sportz last weekend just to look at these compartment lights, but they didnt have any boats in stock with the compartment lights. So I scrapped that idea and thought Id ask for pictures here. I am a rookie with rivets, and I cant seem to get a rivet to pull down flat on both sides. One side is obviously flat orginally, but when I pull the rivet tight, the other side just seems to expand out, but still sticks up 1/4″ or so. I didnt think that would look good with that end of the rivet sticking upward if I inserted rivet from inside the box. Does that make sense. Thats why I thought I might need to take the lids off and place the rivets from the top side. Thanks for all your help. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
