Compartment Locks

I am assuming you are talking about Southco latches. I just installed these last night so they are fresh on my mind. I installed mine so that the cam bar would just miss the glass when rotating the handle with the lid down. Doing so prevents any lateral contact with the glass that would cause wear. The compression action when pivoting the handle will draw the lid tight. Sounds like you just need to loosen the nuts and drop down the cam bar so you have adequate clearance. If you need to repair previous damage I would recommend marine-tex.

It sounds like your cam bars are adjusted too tight. I had the perkos before upgrading to southcos and had no problems with the glass on the underside. I would adjust the bars to the point where they spin freely with moderate down pressure on the lid. This will keep the lid tight when closed but not too tight to cause further problems with the glass underneath.Perkos do not have the compression mechanism so your best solution will be to put down pressure on the lids before you turn the handle when opening and closing so that the cam bar will clear the glass freely.
