I have been going back and forth about ordering a deck extension on my Sabre. Is the step up seem too high, is the cooler hard to access? How sturdy is it? Install pretty straightforward? Anybody have pics of the underside where it bolts through the lockers?
ABSOLUTELY get the flipping deck! Install=drop in, as sturdy as regular deck. See pix in my profile under Pantera Classic photos. I had one on my previous BassCat and after a while never took it out. Beauty is the flexibility to remove when you dont want it. Major advantage is when you have a co-angler…dramatically increases deck space if you want to fish 2 up front. Best part is the additional storage you gain! My co-angler could easily slide his tackle bag underneath leaving your back boxes open for other items. Cooler storage does require you to go through another door, but how many times during the day do you access your cooler? Minor inconvenience at worst. Remember you dont have to permanently bolt it in. Parts can provide retaining straps with snaps to allow easy removal. IM me if you have any more questions…you will love it.
I have a deck extension for my 2000 sabre. Mine does not bolt down it has snaps that hold it in. I like it when I need it but most of the time leave it out because its easier to get in the rod and storage compartments. Its nice when fishing with a partner pitching and flipping but other than that I dont use it much. Plus you really dont have much room when you need to sit down a dig out tackle or retie. IMHO.
I like the deck extension. I had one in my previous BassCat and just recently ordered on for my Classic. To me, having all the extra room up front is worth the step up. As mentioned, it is especially handy when you have someone up front with you. Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra

The flippin deck makes the boat seem twice as big when actually fishing. You wont regret it and neither will your fishing partner. I remember when my Dad went from a Pantera 2 with a flippin deck to a Jaguar(the original) without one. As the partner, I missed the flippin deck more than I ever thought I would. I was constantly stepping backwards and falling in rough water situations while fishing. Id say get it.Cheers,Scott
not needed only personal preference
easy to install or remove, not hard to access cooler overall a nice option
I have it on the Classic also. It really makes the deck great to fish from and access to the cooler is not a big deal. Makes ice last longer too. It is a big step up and for us older guys, it can get to you towards the end of the day but I still say its worth it. Can always pop it out (four small bolts/nuts) if you want. Adds a bunch of storage space under deck for co-anglers hear is a nice bonus.
I think BCB should make it a standard item on the Classic. Well worth the money!!
Thanks for the info. I am about to pull the trigger on it. Can somebody post a pic of the underside where it bolts through. I would really like to see the install with the snaps in addition to the bolt through option.
I am shortlegged and slightly overweight…….okay maybe more than slightly………..fine, I am an overly large fella. I hate flippin decks due to having to crawl up on my knees to get on the deck. I would much prefer the step up cooler.I have an older boat that my son uses for college fishing, that I built a deck extension. He uses it just fine with his teammates.I have a friend that has a dual console Sabre with a deck extension. Narrow between consoles, with windshields and a widebody like me, it takes more concentration not to break a windshield, step on a seat, fall or worse, than what it is worth to me. Ill just stay on the back deck during those times, no matter what, lol.If you are fishing with a lot of co anglers and you both routinely fish up front, I can see the deck extension. If it is because it gives you a bigger deck and you are the only one up front, like smbass said, its not needed.
