Very nice review! Well done sir. I like mine mounted in the dash but I understand that the need to upgrade units will make the smart bracket a very nice accessory for most people. If I ever need to upgrade from my HDS-9 touch fishing in the swamps and bayous and marshes of south louisiana I would be surprised. Thanks Chris! I bet you only use yours for the mapping, you can probably tell the depth by sticking your rod in the water Thats my style of fishing too

Kinda curious? Why not just use a Sherms mount? Theyre virtually identical in concept, function, and materials. They both adapt for later changes. Sherms is custom built for your particular model and dash to give full gauge visibility. The Sherms mount is $110 vs considerably more for the other. Not trying to stir the pot, but was just wondering what difference caught your eye……

I looked at the Sherms mount, and I like the way it looks and comes with the BCB logo. There were two main reasons I didnt go with it, one he never made a mounting bracket for a Garmin before so i would have had to make a template of the gimbal mount to send to him. The second reason, its my understanding that if I switched from a Garmin to a Lowrance, i would need to get another Sherm mount as the gimbal holes are different between each brand of electronics. Sherms was considerably less expensive. It was really a toss up which way to go.

@smbass – makes sense. Seems that Sherm needs to do slots vs. holes to give some adaptability. Either that or do the drilling myself to match the gimbal. Aluminum isnt too difficult to poke holes thru. When I ordered mine it was for a HB 998 – so that was
