Im looking at the Cooks system for my Cougar FTD. With the foam / “bubble trim” under the lids and configuration of bracing and gas lid shocks Im wondering what options are best for installing these? I could run short screws right into the lid support braces through the foam and get just a few installed that way, or I could mark and cut foam out and use some double stick tape to mount them on any of the flat areas which would open up a lot more options. The “bubble trim” is adhesive backed, and Im assuming its mostly for cosmetics and sealing against water leakage where it contacts the rubber gasket. Im thinking that if I decide to trim out foam, as long as I stay away from the gasket contact areas it should look pretty good and cause no problems. Whatcha think? Not being one to want to cut or drill holes in my Cat, I stuck mine on with Pros Soft Glue. If your not familiar with it, its like super glue. On the more narrow lids on my Cougar, I cut the Cooks plastic racks in half before I glued them on. I did that about a year and a half ago, and theyve stayed fastened tightly, even though Ive got a bunch of spinnerbaits and jigs hanging on them.

Thanks, billius. I saw the glue that you mentioned on their website and installation information, along with the double-sided adhesive tape option. Those two ideas seem best in my opinion since theres no drilling involved. You didnt mention whether you cut out the bubble trim to expose the flat aluminum lid surface where you glued yours in?John Helms Hot Springs, AR

I didnt cut out the bubble trim. I thought about it, but decided to try it first without cutting it out. So far so good!

Bill & silver bullet. I wouldnt cut out any of the bubble trim around the hatch openings. This is what seals out water and keeps the hatch dry. If you are referring to the foam insulation glued directly to lid, then it would be OK to remove sections of foam only to glue or two sided tape directly to aluminum lid. This is what I did used body side trim moulding tape. No problems big jigs and spinner baits on both racks.

Logan Martin Cat: Thanks for the advice. The “bubble trim” that Im referring to is just the adhesive-backed thin foam on the underside of the compartment lids. I wouldnt want or need to cut it close to where it seals off near or around the perimeter and the rubber gasket contact points. That could cause leakage, as you stated in your post. It sounds like you did what Im thinking about doing–which is to decide where I want each piece of the Cooks system, mark an outline and carefully trim out the thin foam to expose the aluminum lid surface.
