Couple of Questions on the Cougar AE

Got a chance to test drive a Cougar AE yesterday on Mille Lacs with Ivan. Wind was gusting 20-22 out of the SW and it was a perfect ride test. All I can say is the ride is amazing compared to what I have now. Couple of questions on the Cougar AE:What is the deck width at the bow seat post and how does it compare to the FTD? The storage compartment immediately forward of the step cooler is cavernous. How would you organize/stow plano tackle boxes like the 3700s so that they are accessible and not flopping around in the compartment?

The current Cougar AE was once the Cougar FTD. In 2011 the Cougar FTD changed and the Cougar AE took that cap design. The width will be at least 60″. 60″ from the tip of the bow. The storage area on the front deck is for you to figure out. Therefore, get ready to buy some tackle!

Phil, I assume youre talking beam when I was asking about deck width, as 60″ does not jive with what I see here: http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/224 … E-3mFLAFUw As for tackle organization, I was curious as to what others have done. Buying more tackle is one potential solution that I wouldnt have thought of. One learns so much on these boards.

Yes………..very similar to that drawing. And jig and pig is correct on the tackle organizers.

CalI have had both the AE Layout and I currently have a 2012 Cougar FTD. This is my third Basscat and are/were perfect for me. I have owned many Ranger Z520s, Z20s,520s, 518s as well as a couple of Skeeters. All were fine boats yet all were so different. If your looking to compare to any or these I may have insight for you. If you would like to run it or see how I chose to use compartments, let me know. Mike

I use small clothes basket type baskets to store my plano bxes. Secure the basket with bugee cords around the seat socket. I have a 2013 Cougar AE for sale if your interested.
