I have a Puma FTD and am going to buy a cover for it. Going to tow it on long trips. Which cover do you guys think is the best? Thanks
All Ive ever had were Aurora covers . — They fit perfectly !! — One thought to consider though , when towing your boat you actually get better fuel economy without the cover on the boat . — This is due to the aerodynamics of your truck , which forces the air UP over the cab and DOWN directly behind the tailgate or back doors , whichever the case may be . — The cover catches the airflow which produces downforce on the trailer instead of just rolling the air over the vehicle . — I proved this theory on my last road trip . — Gained a 10% increase in economy without the cover . — Hoss
The new strapless Sunbrella Supreme is the finest cover for your Cat!!!! Aurora makes it. No worries about scratching the gel while travelling with this one.
I was leaning towards the Sunbrella, was wanting to get some feedback from those that have them. Thanks! Also never thought about the fuel mileage deal, seems like that will have some merit though.
The new strapless covers do reduce that effect on fuel mileage. BCB
Ive had covers forever and have had a strapless Sunbrella for the last 3 or 4 years. Now I tow approximately 50% of the time with the cover on.
If towing for overnight trip or rain possible, always covered. Dont like to start my day with wet butt in dirty boat.
Ive had a strapless Sunbrella for a year and a half now and Im very disappointed in it. It was a very expensive cover and it does not work as advertised. I do a lot of long distance travel at interstate speeds and the wind dumping off the back end of my truck hits the cover in front of the windshields, pushes hard against it causing the cover to lift above the rubrail approximately where the seats are located. Road spray with sand and grit is then able to get underneath the edge of the cover and it accumulates back at the transom corners. To me, this completely unacceptable. I did post this problem on this board previously and was told by BCB to tighten the cover more. Not sure why anyone would think that I would travel with the cover loose. I have tightened it as tight as it will go and have even checked it at gas and rest stops to see if it has loosened up at all and can be tightened more. I have tried it with and without the cover poles. Nothing has helped. I finally contacted Aurora about a month ago and theyve been most cooperative. We talked over some options and they have sent me several straps that I will have a local canvas shop attach. These straps will drop down to the trailer frame and I plan to have them placed in the area of the seats where the cover is lifting. Its not something I want to do but I dont have a choice. Otherwise, I am going to have gelcoat damage at the rear corners of the boat (2013 Cougar AE). And by the way, up here where the roads are sanded and salted in the winter time, traveling without a cover is not an option. This pic shows the cover lifting above the rubrail aft of the windshields:This is what collected in the back corner of the cover at the transom area during my return trip from southern MO to MN this April. We drove through a lot of rain on the way back.
Macsimus, that cover is cut too short and sewn too short if it has a tight outer strap. We would visit with Aurora about extending it instead of straps to the frame. The red corners can gather little trash if they fit properly.
I love my sunbrella. Great option works perfect
