Cover Ratchets

I ran a 21TRX for 6 months in between my Puma and Lynx, out of the hundreds of parts on the 2 boats, the only individual part I found better on the Triton was the stainless steel ratchets for the cover. If you have a cover with the zinc coated potmetal ratchets, do yourself a favor and swap them for these stainless ones. No more cussing or ratcheted fingers.

Those frames are better on corrosion though we found them to bend the frame in testing. The ones we use we found to work alright if we keep them lubricated and we don’t think either one is good enough. We can’t find a good ratchet that fits in today’s market if imported ratchets and no USA Products today. ANCRA at one time made everything in the USA and we found them to be one of the last to import parts. We continue to look for options and we have been given some ideas from ratchet companies.

Those outside straps are rated an excessively high poundage and they must be extremely TIGHT!

This is the only and I truly mean only thing that I do not enjoy about my new Lynx. The cover is amazing but I’ve begun referring to the ratchets as the 4-letter ratchets. My technician suggested to lubricate with PAM the cooking spray as it will not stain the cover and thus far they are better – just not ideal. My thoughts are to modify the cover straps to accept Boat Buckle ratchets at the back – like the ones on the trailer. Has anyone tried this – what is BCB’s take on it?

Joe, these are the ones I got, they look and feel the same as the ones that worked great for me on the Atwood cover. BCB – Have you checked with Southco? Used to work in the building next to them in Menands NY and shared a parking lot. Talking with them they pretty much made all kinds of small metal items. Might be worth checking.

I actually installed the ratchets that you find on a Ranger Boat. There are two fittings that you bolt to the jackplate and the ratchet comes on and off of the fitting when in use.

I’m tracking with the concerns of the buckles. I recently received my cover for my 12 Eyra. Today I applied the cooking spray, so will see how that goes. It may be helpful if the pouches could close up a little tighter on the ends, the little bit of Velcro did not seem to keep the rain wash and the related road grim from getting in both pouches. But with that said. I’m extremely happy with the cover, and feel it was worth saving the money over these years until I had enough to buy it.

We like a lubricant on the ratchets and we use TriFlow with Teflon.
