You guys may have already posted something like this before.. But what is the most dumb or stupid thing youve done ( to this point) while launching/ loading or just driving your boat.?? Let me start with what I did today….. I got rained out at work but had to stay for my 2 hours show up time.. So Im fit to be tied and ready to hit the water. Get the boat hooked up and get to the lake, take all the straps loose, put in plug and launch her in the water…. Then I go get in the drivers seat and hook up my safety switch on my Life Vest. Hit the starter and nothing.. I know the battery is full.. but I had to take the battery out to let a guy start his boat last weekend, so Im thinking Ive just left a wire loose at the battery.. I fiddle fart around for 30 minutes checking every wire, using a voltmeter and ohm meter to check stuff…. still nothing… now Im getting frustrated,, especially since my friend called and said he was tearing the fish up on topwater…. well I close the back lids and was going to try and get it back on trailer when I noticed …. IT WAS IN DRIVE… not NEUTRAL!!!… I put it in N and guess what.. fired right up.. I felt like an idiot… its funny now.. but it wasnt then..
Been there done that……how about trying to put on the brakes when you take your foot off the hot foot.
I can ASSURE YOU, youre not the first to do that
I was dropping the boat into the lake the other day. I gave it a little slack on the strap but forgot to flip the switch back. I backed it in and gave it a little bump off and the winch handle was spinning like crazy — my P-2 was sure working the drag. I panicked and ran into the water to slow the boat down and slipped and landed flat on my butt in the lake! The ramp was packed. Very humbling,
The one that Ive done twice in the last 6 month is leaving one of the transom straps attached. Back the boat in the water, start the engine, put in reverse, and it doesnt move. The next thing you do is look around to see who is call you a dumb butt!
I thinking of adding another hot foot just so when I do go for the break pedal I actually have one
How many times have you turned the steering wheel in the boat while your partner is backing you down the ramp. Like you can really steer the trailer from the boat. Most of the time I do not even realize Im doing it. One of my partners thanked me for the help one time. ” Thanks for the help I do not know if I could have done it with out you steering the trailer” Smart *%#@&.
I made a trip to Arkansas for a family reunion and brought my boat with me to Lake Hamilton. Anyway, I decided to take the boat out that Saturday and the place was packed and had only one boat lane so I was really pressured to get my boat dumped into the lake as fast as I could. I had my brother back me down and I was trying to start my engine and it wouldnt. It was turning over fine but would not fire up. I check for gas, check my bulb, pulled the engine cover off and made sure the plug wires were hooked to the plug and even had some people from other boats helping me out to get it started. After about 10 minutes and my battery about to die another guy comes by and hands me my kill switch and tells me it would start much easier with this thing attached. I said thanks and hooked it up and the engine fired right up. That was years ago and has not even come close to happening again!!!!!God Bless, Stephen
A few months ago, I backed down the ramp while fishing alone. It was a windy day, so I was in a hurry to get the boat off the trailer before the wind pushed me sideways. After starting the engine, I couldnt back up due to having the back straps still tied down. Thats not the bad part. By the time I realize what I had done, I also realized that the 2002 classic will float a tandem axle trailer nicely. Now, my trailer is sitting at a 45 degree angle to my truck. My wheels are not even on the ramp on one side. So, I had to turn my motor and straighten up the trailer before running and jumping into the truck to pull out quickly. Thankfully, there were no observers for this one.Kent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Well Im pretty embarassed to say mine. I was driving the boat about 2 months ago. I had fished all day with a buddy that was visiting out of town. I dropped him off and was driving back to the launch. I had been driving slow all day and I wanted to have some fun. A cruiser boat was a ways in front of me going about 20 and I was behind it. Now this boat must have been bigger than I thought, or maybe I just wasnt thinking. I got close enough to the cruiser and went to jump its wake. Now I will say I tryed to jump the wake wayy too close to the back of the boat (dumb move). I Speared the living hell out of that boat and took so much water in the face I almost fell out the boat haha. Sunglasses gone, they were cheap. I had 8-10 inchs of water at my feet, not including the bilge that was already full and front deck soaked. I slowed down and hit the bilge pump. I look behind the boat and Im dragging the whole rub rail, the center part that crams in between the upper and lower piece . With the bilge still pumping I had to crawl around the edge of the whole boat pushing the rub rail back in. I would have lost it, but it was screwed in pretty strong in the rear. Man, what a dumb a$$ move. The bilge was running probably 15 minutes. I definetly have more respect for those waves now. Been driving the boat over 2 yrs so Im not that much of a noob.2005 Sabre, 150 XR6, Minn Kota Fortrex with Lowrance electronics
