Currently own Ranger 521c, looking to switch to Bass Cat Lynx, and input from former Ranger owners would be appreciated
The Lynx is a fairly new model. Not sure if there are Lynx owners that were coming out of a Ranger.BCB may have input on this.If possible, find a dealer with a Lynx and check it out along with a Demo ride.
The Lynx just hit regular production about 45 days ago. The first few boats were a couple of retail units in the hurricane stricken Houston area and east Texas markets. Those first few are not in regular use due to family and personal issues relating to the storm. The initial dealer demo and stock inventory also is not a regular sale item. It will be a few weeks before people get out there and have input on the new model. Just like any new model it takes time to get public opinion as those units trickle in. There are former Ranger owners now in our “Bass Cat Family” and they will certainly be along shortly with input on that question. Though most Lynx models are going to those Bass Cat Family loyalists that signed up for one in March and had confidence in the offering we would have.
Ivan will have a lynx on Table Rock October 6, 2017 if you are in the area. But dont forget about any of the other models that Basscat has. I now own a Cougar, and I can tell you besides it being very quick, the front deck is more than big enough for what fishing I do.
I was a Ranger owner for almost 18 years. I faithfully ran them, drank the Ranger Kool-aid i guess you could say. Without covering the hole list the last boat I owned was a 2010 Ranger Z521 with a 250. I had found over the years that the quality and the customer experience continued to diminish with the Ranger company and the product. I did a good deal of research with the dealers of the other brands and the loyal following of Ranger, Legend, Phoenix and BassCat. I felt that BassCat was far superior and every category. My next concern with BassCat was the stories I had been told “Great people, Great product, Fast boat, but you have to learn to drive a BassCat (you know they chine walk)”. I met with Jason Brewer with BCB and Steve Eastwold with Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock and was instantly sold on the people behind the product. They rolled the red carpet out for me and made me feel just like they make all BassCat owners feel, appreciated. Jason spent most of that day with me, took me down to the lake to run his personal Puma FTD in 20 degree weather. I drove the boat and was impressed. I did still have reservations about my ability to drive the beast, but I was all in and ordered my first Puma FTD. After break in I began to earn my BCB wings with a little seat time. After a couple hours my biggest concern of “you gotta drive them” was behind me. Over the past 5 years the relationships with the brand have only grown stronger as well as my product loyalty. The quality of the boat, the people and the ride I feel strongly are superior to any brand on the market. I can promise you that Forrest Wood was never a personal friend of mine, Johnny Morris surely would not be, but hung out at a wedding this weekend Rick and his wife. I understand the reluctance in the change if you are a Ranger loyal, but Ranger is not Ranger anymore and hasnt been in a long time. Their product certainly is not. BassCat is an ever improving company making investments in their product not to cut dollars out but to truly make it better and the Lynx is evidence of that. I have driven the prototype and the 2 boats mentioned above at the photoshoot. I compare the Puma/Cougar FTD although a little shorter and not as wide on the nose with the 520C & 521C. The Lynx is a completely different animal and the other wide front deck boats just dont compare. BCB has one at the plant, take a trip, meet the people, drive the boat, you will find it to be the best decision you will make.Ifadaol if you would like to speak with me in person you are welcome to call me anytime @ 870-897-1300 Last edited by SteveD on October 3rd, 2017, 7:18 pm, edited 1 time in total.
