I have a 2020 Sabre FTD and want to mount a 10″ Solix without destroying my dash if possible. Called Sherm’s as I really like the way he designed his mount- Unfortunately, they are months out.. in fact, they said they have no idea the turn around time because there are lots of mounts waiting to be made and making mounts is his 3rd job.
No disrespect to Sherm’s, but I’m going to need something soon.
Alternative mounts?
Precision Mounts & Bassboat Technologies should have some good Mount ideas. I’m kinda liking BCB’s Balzout mounted on the right side of their 2021 SP package. I’ve always liked my graph off to the side a bit. Not sure about clearance, but it looks like I could leave my 7” Helix in place if I so desired, then have a 9” or bigger mounted to the right of it on a Balzout. I like the idea of being able to remove my graph & adjust angles. Check out the dash on their SP models. I’m scratching my head about the same issue for my 2018 Sabre.
Thanks for the reply/Help!
I really would like to run bigger graphs at the dash, but I don’t want to have my view blocked and I don’t want them sticking out the sides of the console.. I think/hope these 7’s will be enough.
I considered leaving the 7 and balzout mounting a 9 beside it just as you said. As weird as it sounds the asymmetrical nature of that set-up would drive me crazy.
I decided to go with BBT dual dash mount and run two helix 7’s rather than one 10″. The boat came with a Helix 7 MDI that I will use for sonar and I’ll grab a Helix 7 MSI for side imaging. The mount will allow me to upgrade to dual 10″ graphs if I decide the 7’s are too small. I have a Garmin 10″ livescope and another 9″ si graph upfront.
Edit- Chaz(sp?) and his wife at Crossed industries were super helpful in selecting a mount and talking through options.
Sounds good. Glad you found a solution. I hear you on the symmetry thing. I get weirded out if the dash gauges are crooked.
Which motor do you have on your 2020? What kind of speeds do you get fully loaded with all your gear? I’ve got a 2 stroke 175 that I really like. I’m debating on whether to spend the money for a few upgrades to get mine how I want it, or just order a new one set up exactly the way I want and colors. I’ve been waiting to hear info from owners on the new 4 strokes, but not too many out there with 18 footers. The little I’ve heard were from other brand boat owners, and they all report slower speeds than the 2 strokes. With 2 full grown adults, mine will hit 68 with 1/2 fuel or less in the heat of Summer. 4 stroke would save some money on oil, and I fish a lot year round.
The 150 PROXS 4 stroke is absolutely fantastic- it’s quiet, it sips fuel as long as I’m not full throttle, even then it’s good. On tourney day I can run our 14 mile lake a couple of times and use under 3 gallons.
As far as speeds go, boat empty with 1/2 tank I’ve seen 64, but I run the tank full 99% of the time as I fill up returning from each trip.
Full tank, tourney loaded with a partner I’m struggling to hit 60…. it runs literally at 59.8
I sometimes wish I got the 175 4 stroke for the extra speed…
How much fuel do you use?
I fish a lot, minimum twice a week and have always wondered how much more I would be paying with the 175.
Mine sips fuel nicely. Wide open & Trimmed out on calm water, I made about a 78 mile round trip (some of that was fishing & idling in stumps) on Rayburn burning about 21 gallons last week. Temps were chilly. If I back off the throttle & cruise at 60-62, it’ll burn 1/2 of a full tank on that run. It really shines on fuel economy in that 60-62 mph range at about 5200 rpms with a bit under 1/4 trim. I settled on a 25 Tempest prop. It will spool up to 69 mph with 1/2 fuel or less @ 5920 rpms on the Smart-craft by myself on calm water. It runs 67-68 with a partner depending on fuel level with empty livewell. Fury is faster, but I like the soft ride the Tempest has for the choppy to rough stuff. I get pounded with wind and boat wakes most every time out. I keep my motor down on the plate at about 3 3/4 PTP. No hotfoot. Unless I know I’m going to make a very long run, I don’t ever put more than 3/4 fuel in the tank. My boat really wakes up at 1/2 fuel or less, and I can go a long way on 1/2 fuel. If you don’t need a full tank, don’t fill it. It will help your speed.
What prop do you have? That 150 is all you need, and I would think 65 + solo easy with whatever prop you like and 62-63 with 2 people. There is another guy who posts on here with a 150 4 stroke, and I think he has seen 66 with a 24 Trophy. That is plenty fast. BCB has said they like a Fury or Trophy on the Sabre FTD. For what it’s worth. The best prop I’ve tried with my 175 2 stroke for 2 big guys & a full fuel tank was a 24 Tempest. It was right at 68 mph @ over 5900 rpms. I could barely notice I had a partner in the boat.
I tried a Precision Sonar mount on my 2017 Sabre and a Helix 9. I could not get the geometry of the mount, tilt steering and my legs with a hotfoot to work out correctly. The PS mount required me to tilt the wheel down which blocked my thigh/leg from getting at the hotfoot. I ended up just cutting out the console area and doing a recessed mount.

This Sabre had a 175 2stroke. I found the best prop to be a 24 or 25P Trophy Plus. I plugged the PVS holes solid and did not use an exhaust ring.
