Deans or Aurora custom cover

Can anyone give the pros and cons about either of the two boat covers. Which cover is best to travel / weight / user friendly and so on? Glynn

I have a Deans! It doesnt leak or weep water. It is a 2 piece cover, 1 part boat and 2nd part covers the engine cowling. The Aurora is a 1 piece. If you get a Deans, order it felt lined or the material will rough up your gel coat. Someone will be along shortly and give you a better report on the Aurora.James

I have the aurora cover on my 2004 cougar FTD. I like the cover, it is one piece. I will say it is a little bulky for one person but it can be done. ( I do it all the time when staying at motels) I have had no problems with leaks. It is felt lined in the right places. I do wish it had more felt lining around the top cap area. Ron

The Aurora is generally a better cover. It is also a little better for traveling. As far as putting on, etc. they all take about the same amount of time. Just depends if you want to pick up 50lbs. or 25lbs.

I have a Aurora cover for my 2004 Cougar FTD. It is a thick heavy cover, but I have no trouble putting it on, or taking it off myself. I have never trailered with it on, and do not really think I ever will. Even though my boat rests in my garage, the owner before told me the seams do leak. Also, underneath the stitching has come undone and there are huge lines of frayed material. Overall, I think it is a really nice cover, and there is no way you will get any sun damage on your boat.

I have a Deans and use it mostly for overnight covering when staying at a motel. It packs up into a compact size which allows me to store it easily in the boat, so its always close at hand. I dont trailer long distances very often, but if I did I think the heavier Aurora might be preferable.

Ive got the Deans cover, its very well made. However mine does weep moisture inside if it sits outside with the cover on for any length of time. It really scuffs the gel coat if you tow with it on the boat, no matter how tight you get it. I towed my Cougar from Indiana to Alabama to fish at Lay and Jordan lake about a year ago, the gel coat was a mess. I will never tow my boat with a cover on it again. You can always clean it up when you get where youre going.

Great comments about both. Its awesome to ask a question and receive so much imformation. Thankyou “BassCat Owners”. I guess traveling with either is a gamble. I would die if the gelcoat got damaged. The one thing I got from your comments is, there is no perfect cover and both seem to serve their place for protection. Thanks, Glynn

If you contact Aurora canvas they can make a 2 peice cover like the one I have on my 2006 puma. The material you need is acrylic, if you go with a water proof cover it will draw moisture the acrylic is a water resistent material and is breathable. The Aurora cover is designed for towing your boat and is built to the specs of your boat. They also make a dust cover just for keeping the dew or dust of your boat, it is made of a light weight material and is definetly not designed to travel. I have not used Deans cover but after the commits about being rough on the gel coat I think I will stay with the Aurora cover.
