I looked throught the FAQ base for my answer because I know we have had numerous battery related questions answered. However, I could not locate an anwer to my question. My bow mounted depth finder will turn on but then will turn off after the initial boot. I then started the main engine and tried it again and it comes on and stays on, but when I cut the main engine off it stays on for a short time then cuts off. Obviously there is a power supply issue but how do I get more juice to keep it running?http://www.vrbo.com/297770

Randy.Im assuming you have Lowrance electronics because I had the same problem. My guess is that you have a voltage drop somewhere between your bow electronics and your power source. Im no electrical genius but I suggest you check all connections and wire splices. Mine was connected directly to the battery and simply brightening up the connection to the post fixed my problem. Yours may be set up differently but Im betting you have a splice or connection that is not quite right, assuming your battery is good to go. I dont know anything else besides a voltage drop that makes L electronics blink off like that.

Sounds like a battery issue there Randy Taylor. Not for sure if it is a battery issue or something else, as it could be a breaker or connections. We worked on several this winter and we always bring ourselves back to a low battery. We feel if it were a voltage drop from a connectoin that the engine would not support the electronics at an idle.

BCB,My HDS displays a slightly higher voltage with the big motor running than with it off. Could that be the difference maker in his instance?

It could, though sitting battery voltage is a question too.

I am having the exact same problem. I went bought butt splices and a in line fuse today I am going to run new wires and hook it to one of my TM batteries. I see this type of post all the time it seams real common I hope BCB changed the wire size on the new models to help with the voltage drop.

The voltage drop is more an aging issue. The 12 gauge wire is more ample than the 20 gauge the depth finder power cords are.
