I have owned three Detwiler Jack Plates, and had at least some trouble with all three plates. Back when Mr. Detwiler was running the service department, he was very helpful and walked me through several repairs on my first Detwiler plate. After Mr. Detwiler was no longer active in the company, the new management was not helpful at all with me concerning problems, but I had a great mechanic that kept the second Detwiler running, though at a cost. My last Detwiler had the least problems at all, but I had to replace the exacto-gauge, which Detwiler said was much improved, and the sending unit. Regarding the plate making noise when going up, two of my plates did that and the problem each time was the exacto-gauge and once it was the exacto-gauge and sending unit. Try greasing the zerk fittings on each side of the plate, and that may stop the problem. I assisted a friend having the same problem that you describe, and all he needed was grease in the zerk fittings. My next plate will probably be a Bobs Hydraulic plate. I hope this was helpful. Corky
