I buy the Synthetic blend oil at walley world, its Quicksilver and says on back “meets and exceeds all blha blah…… for tcw 3 and DFI.. “…… I have a 200 optimax and is this the right oil to run in her???? The reason Im asking is while at Gander yesterday I noticed some Quicksilver that said ” DFI oil”….. Got me to wondering now???

I follow what Merc says in my owners manual — DFI oil. Quicksilver DFI has additional detergents so I guess it burns cleaner.

I went through a long post about the wally world synthetic blend on BBC. It is “Premium Plus” oil. If it isnt brown it isnt DFI oil. It is warranty safe being a TCW3 oil, but it is not DFI oil. DFI oil is not TCW3 and can not be used on a non DFI motor was the consensus.

No, trust me, we,ve been through this. My first 2 quarts I put in my boat were Permium Plus. I was well convinced from this board and Merc that was the wrong thing to do. A gallon or 2 isnt going to hurt but if you keep running it, it maybe be a problem. I would love to run the PP oil, its a lot cheaper, but it is a no, no,

John is correct. The DFI oil is for the regular Optis. The Premium Plus is for the Pro XS Mercs. No more oil than is used by either engine…I see no reason to not use what Mercury recommends. You can get the DFI Opti oil from your Merc dealer. I buy mine in bulk. I just keep the original jugs I bought when I bought my boat from Sherm. I take them in when empty and have them filled up. Ive seen prices anywhere from $15-$22 per gallon. I get it at L&M Marine down here for $19 per gallon.

Ive put 3 gallons in mine.. I wont put anymore… thanks so much for the info.. a 10k motor is worth the extra 10bucks a gallon .. thanks again..
