Did something stupid

I parked my boat and trailer in the garage and unhooked everything except the emergency brake cable thingamawopper from the trailer to my hitch(not on purpose). I pulled away from the trailer with my truck to go to the gym and tore the cable out of the trailer. Do I just need to get another cable and attach it? Or could I have possibly screwed something up? What do I need to check out?

There is a release tab under the coupler to depress and relieve the pressure on the cylinder, though it may take a little more. You should be able to replace it with a little effort by removing the pins and sliding it out of the tongue. Dont worry about stupid, your not the first and you wont be the last.

Aaron…this tip is too late to help you out, but I always hook that emergency brake cable to one of the clips that go onto the hitch. If the trailer were to jump off the hitch, it would still pull the cable to activate the brake. Plus, when you unhook the cables from the truck, it is unhooked too.

I did it at the dealership with a bunch of people watching! I felt about 2″ tall; now mine is hooked as suggested. I happens! If you can do it yourself you will save a bunch, my bill was close to 150 dolllars including labor.I know you felt that snap tug and said what the %%%% was that!So feel better that you are not alone!

Scott that is funny.I once backed into a parked boat at J&J Marine. I think I was about 2.5 inches tall. Everyone in the lot came running to see what damage I administered.For a few years after that, when Jim Sr. (the owner) saw me, he would get in my truck and drive it to the exit gate so I would be sure not to hit anything again.All in good sport – But I know it was designed to embarrass me for as many years as possible. I am now only 2 ft tall.
