2007 pumaI was messing around with the connections on the bow of my boat for the lowrnace 28 and the gps puck thats up there. I disconceted some of the connections and was trying to make sure they were clean and dry. When I put them back together I think I did it wrong because I made the fuse pop out right by the master power switch by the console. This caused me to loose all power to the graph.Well after may attempts to connect the wires properly I can not get the gps to work. The graph does work. Is there another fuse I am missing or?Any help is appreciated. Its a 2000 puck that in connected to a 26 and 28 Lowrance. Jon
I dont know if there are any other fuses or not. One way you could test to make sure it is not a problem somewhere else in the wiring would be to make some long jumper wires that reach back to your battery and just wire it direct for test purposes. If it powers up at least you know your problem is somewhere in the wiring and not your unit.Im getting to where I do the same kinds of things anymore with wiring… I think I can remember it right but then I forget. So I take a lot pictures with my cell phone while Im working on project like wiring something then just delete them when Im done.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
But the GPS puck isnt wired to the battery is it? Doesnt it go directly to the unit itself enabling the GPS functions of the sonar?
I believe the gps goes to the battery. I think its on the NEMA2000 network which has to be powered. so confused. But your right I need to see IF i have power to the GPS.I have not been able to find any fuses for either fish finder or the nema network. Anyone know if these come from the factory with the Lowrance 3amp fuses used or do they just use that fuse by the main power at the console in place of the separate fuses?ThanksJon
John,I know in a post a few weeks back, BCB mentioned they dont like those inline fuses because of the problems they present over time. If it had inlines, They wouldnt be hidden. They would be back at the battery where you could see them. I dont think BCB uses them. Im sure someone from BCB will chime in. If you think that GPS puck is powered, you could take the screws out of it, pull it out until you see the butt splices and work the probes of your multimeter under the pos and neg. there should be enough room just under the collar of those splices to do that. Shouldnt have to cut anything. I assume then there are more than two wires going to it too since it is networked and powered. So you have to figure out which is your pos and neg to do this. Hope there is enough slack to pull the wires out of the hole to expose the butt splices. If you pulled hard in your cleaning process, you could have pulled a wire out of a splice too. Sometimes they dont get crimped good. By the way, just wanted to say, thats a dang nice bass on your avatar. Whered you get that rascal and what did he weigh?Last edited by apdriver on March 17th, 2013, 12:52 pm, edited 1 time in total.
You have obviously crossed a positive with a negative line somewhere on the rewiring.
apdriver–Thanks! that fish was just under 10lbs…..9lb 14oz if I remember right. I caught it at Collins Lake which is in Norther California. Its a small lake that is know for trout fishing, but has some big trout fed bass in it as well. Caught it on a 8″ Huddelston swimmer.I will try and get this gps figured out. I spent over 3 hours trying to get the connection right and since I only had 3 connectors unscrewed im pretty sure I tried all combinations possible, but I will get the multimeter to it and see.I am well aware that I crossed something. Still not sure if there is a fuse to check or not.
If it is a BCB install, theres no fuse.
Jon,If the lowrance has some reverse polarity protection you may not have damaged it. I am afraid maybe in one of your tries to get it right, you may have put 12 VDC to a data circuit that may not like voltage. In hindsight if you were not sure how it all went back together, the owners manual may have given you some insight into what color wire went to pos, neg, data, etc. It still may give you some guidance for a solution. If you cant find yours, you can download your manual from lowrance.com. I took a look at it but couldnt tell much without comparing it to what you had. It does have some guidance though. That is certainly the fish of a lifetime. Good luck with that Lowrance.
