“Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says the LORD, “and they shall fish them; (Jeremiah 16:16) Did you know Jesus favored fishermen and loved being on the water? Well, lets look at itHe preached by and on the water. He calmed the sea, parted the sea, walked on water and even turned the water into wine. He has some of the greatest fishing tips ever known to man—– “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”(Luke 5:1-9) —- “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men!”(Matthew 4:19 &Mark 1:17) He fed the multitudes (over 5,000) in a deserted place by the waters edge(that He reached by BOAT) w/ 2 FISH, not beef or chicken, 2 FISH! On top of that, there was plenty to spare, 12 baskets full! SO, Jesus has the ability to fill us up no matter how vast the trial is or empty we are!!! YOU TALK ABOUT A GREAT RETURN FOR SUCH A SMALL INVESTMENT!!!!!!!! SO TELL ME, WHAT SPORT DO YOU THINK JESUS FAVORS???!!!
Thank You for the reminder.

I dont think he favors people according to their occupation or their hobbies so long as it is not an immoral activity. He desires us all to serve him and to be a good witness in bringing others to know him as their lord and savior. The reason so many of the 12 were fisherman, as I have been told, may be due to the need of persistents and patience in helping to lead others toward him. These are qualities that fisherman need and generally have. These traits are very useful in witnessing to others. I know for one that I need to spend more time being a fisher of men.Last edited by Fisherman74 on March 11th, 2008, 3:05 am, edited 1 time in total.

I know He doesnt favor anyone in a literal sense of favoritism. I stated that in fun and as an appeal to others that share our love of the sport. I guess, I should have stated that He desired to hang around fisherman and water. You are right, the Lord is no respecter of character. He favored( or chose) fisherman probaly because they had characters others didnt. They would have to be very skilled on how, where and when to catch fish, which would be useful also in leading people to Chirst. They also were strong, not discouraged easily, patient and people oriented. They also had business savvy in order to sell their catches and convince people why they should buy what they had to offer. They had to speak different languages because their travel took them to many towns so, what better people to travel with. They could communicate w/ many diverse people and were respecters of the laws. They knew how to operate within their limitations and were good judges of character. Jesus probably also chose fishermen because their job took them to so many towns that they were familiar with the territories and therefore they would have an easier time into the transition of their calling to “Go out into all the world and preach the gospel”. Another character of fishermen were they worked good in pairs or teams. That was and is vital because each partner could feed off of each others strengths and weaknesses thus, balancing out each others giftings. So, in reality, we could probably say Jesus did favor fishermen. His love and offerance to salvation shows no parciality but, it sure seems a choice in character leaned towards the fisherman and “Fisher of men”! Good thing the Lord isnt a respecter of character according to our shortcomings or failures. Wed all be destined to take a trip to see the for eternity! His blood shed on the cross covers all our sins and failures.(Thankyou Lord) Fisherman74, I think we spend more time than we realize being fisher of men. It doesnt have to be the sold out ,quit your job, Jesus freak( though some of us did and are lol!) but, just the everyday glow others see on our faces and how we live our lives. People tend pay more attention to actions rather than words.Though we dont always understand things, its the glorifying Him in the good as well as the BAD! YOU MAY NEVER KNOW WHAT IMPACT THIS LITTLE POST WILL HAVE ON OTHERS! These discussions are healthy and are a good way to grow in our knowledge and faith. All we can do keep glorifying Him and sharing with others, at least, UNTIL THEY RUN US OFF!!! God bless
