Topic: Difference between the Humminbird 797 and 798

I am interested in having one of these installed. I know the 797 is last years model and the 798 has 2 card slots. Are there any other differences? Upgrade? Anyone have a recommendation? Thanks in advance, Steven

We dont really see a big difference in the units. The 798 is an upgraded software and some minor alterations. There are not significant differences. BCB

The screen is larger on the 798. The dual slots is nice too. If I had the choice today Id go w/ the 798. But I am very happy w/ the 797 I chose last year. Good luck.

I think the screen sizes are the same but the resolution higher (better) on the 798, 640×640 while the 797 is 640×480. misr12

Their website says they are both 5 inches so Ill look at my 797 tonight to see if it is 5. wrt screen size, both are 5″ diagonal, but the 798 is square (798) and 797 is rectangular (797). Shop the sales and you should be able to get a good deal, especially on the 797 since it is a closeout model. I installed mine so I dont know what installation costs. I mounted my transducer on the jackplate so I didnt put any additional holes in the transom. Recommend you do the same. Good luck.
