Actually the screens are extremely clear on Helix Mark. The Onix systems are touch as well as button and joystick operation. The deals from Cabelas are leftover units returned to Humminbird by major retailers, sold cheap to Cabelas for clearance. Onix is finally a deglitched platform and functions very well and does compete with Lowrance HDS Touch. The new Generation 2 Helix is on par with Onix and improved side and down imaging in operation, with no touch operation and a great screen.Ease of operation definitely goes to the 700-900 Humminbirds. The new Gen 2 Lowrance is also a better platform, though menus are hard to navigate on any new touch units that are not in a core platform. Raymarine is more complex and has a ton of options with the units being more focused on the hard core electronics geek. In our honest opinion, Garmin is simple, efficient and produces the least amount of detail we feel. We spent a lot of time this year reviewing Garmin unit with some of their technicians, and them not knowing who we were and what our focus was. In not offering Garmin were our consumers at a disadvantage to the offerings we offer. Could you compete better with a Garmin? And yes we do want all our anglers (“Family”) Our determination was the units were fluff and marketing. Quality in some areas, though these are ultimately “Fish Finders” and we felt the images were poor in definition and clarity. They offered limited detail in our opinion. Operation was extremely simple and effective, though not as simple as HumminBird.
