took my cat out on the red the other day, to do a little fishing and see what shed do loaded out by gps. 27 gal of fuel, full fishing load out, two people and my absolute top speed was a measly 55 mph at 5400 rpms. Tried adjusting the jack plate, but that was the best i could get. live wells and bilge were empty, so there wasnt the extra water weight. im running a 94 PII with a 150 fast strike turning a 25pitch 4 blade ss prop. rooster tail at top end is just about right, just a little above the cowling. hole shot with the prop is adequate, im afraid if i go much higher though its gonna take forever to plane out. if you guys got any suggestions to pick my speed up a litte, id appreciate it. im looking for low to mid sixties.(thats kinda what i was expecting)

What prop are you running? Some will do better than others. Also Im gonna say youre running too much pitch try a 23 tempest or fury try to get your rpms up around 6000.

There could be a number of things here1. bad prop2. engine has lost some of its zap due to age and use3. hull could be water logged4. boat overloaded5. etc.

On a boat of this age there are too many variables for anyone to help on line. You just have to work at it or accept it as is. We would work at it, though it is a long process.

When I had my 150 on a 92 PII, I was running a 23 pitch, and the best I ever saw was 61 MPH and that was in perfect conditions, it would run 59 all day long.

ok guys, thanks. i guess i just got a little over expectant when i ran the boat the first time, when the speedo showed showed 65 mph, of course that was with 15 gal of fuel no gear and one person. ill try playing with the prop a little and see what happens, but other than a complete repower, which wouldnt be worth the money on a boat that age, i guess ill just have to accept things as they are. im running a 25 pitch 4 blade omc renegade prop. now i have a 25 p three blade , but it needs a little work. would the three blade give me a little kick?

We really like an original 24 Raker on this set up.

i just looked at the three blade prop i had out in my shop and convieniently enough, its a raker 24. once i get it back from the prop shop ill give it a try. thanks again everyone for the advice.
