http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/270 … e-new-boatSacomafia, thats really a great story about the first fish to be swung over the side of your new boat. I didnt want to take over your thread so I thought I would start a different one here.I have owned 12 boats up to now and I will tell yall what I do with each and every one. I always break them in on a single trip. This trip will include a lot of running the engine to of course break it in but I will also include some down time to fish. I have this routine where no one will enter the boat until I swing the first Bass over the side. I have always caught the first fish on the maiden voyage to break the boat in. If I didnt then I would go alone on the second trip to swing that first Bass over the side. I know there are a lot of you who change boats frequently, so does anyone else have a “somewhat superstitious” routine similar to this one? Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Ive had plenty of them too. No routine. Some have been broke in on the first day. Others over a two day period. And even some several days after pick up. Some with a buddy, some by myself. Maybe if I were to get in a routine my fishing would routinely get better.
I have had one new boat of another brand and three new BassCats. I have had two boats that were “new to me.” The only ritual I have…is I take them out to the lake, fire them up and take off and grin from ear to ear! Every time I get in my Cat, I have that silly grin on my face.
I bet my new Cat will come with that grin too!! Danbillius wrote:I have had one new boat of another brand and three new BassCats. I think the grin is listed under “standard equipment”……
I thought surely someone would fess up to some sort of superstitious routine by now. I dont have small kids but if I did then maybe having one of them swing the first fish aboard would be the best routine to have.As things stand now though, I wouldnt think of having someone else swing that first Bass over the side of my boat. The boat I have now was put in on the Atchafalaya Basin and I put 102 miles on it that day. Id say it was broken in well after that. Caught my first Bass right after lunch north of Bayou Pigeon after fishing for only 10 minutes. I remember that day well. Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
I take mine to Prairie creek ramp on Beaver lake run to the dam turn around head back, wave at the ramp, keep going to the mouth of the White and the War Eagle rivers turn around and go back to the ramp and load it on the trailer. Thats around eighty miles. Takes a few hours and the scenery is great.
Never owned a new boat
I may be a little superstitious. This is my second new boat. The first one I broke in at Greers Ferry and it was a great motor. Even though I rarely fish up there and its almost 2 hours from the house, I plan to take it up there Thursday to do the break-in and hope for as good or better results. I was suppose to work but I ended up getting lucky. Now Im all smiles!
