Does Basscat make a in-dash bezel for a Lowrance HDS8 similar to the one for a Bird 998?

Trying to decide which to mount, have a Bird now, but the issues reported with the new software updates, and the interlink box have me scared and thinking HDS8 (which I like the screen better anyway).

I have had no problems with either of my Birds. I like them much better that the Lowance that I had been using. I have had several of both brands over the years, but at this point I think the Bird has an edge and much easier to use. My 2 cents.

I actually like the Birds alot too (only have a small 797 right now), but the boards at BBC lately have a ton of people with new units or those that have upgraded to the down imaging software update who are having issues with shallow water reading (where I do alot of), and with cutouts and interuptions at the interlink box. I would really like the downimaging on the trolling motor however.Man, I am really struggling on what to do on the Bird vs. Lowarnce issue. One thing I KNOW I want to do is install a new one in the big hole in the dash left over from my X-15.

On My new Puma, Basscat said the HDS8 will not fit in the dash, had to put a HDS7 there and the HDS8 on the bow

An HDS 8 will fit (at least it did in my 2008 Puma). Look at the photos below. An adapter plate must be made though. I made mine from 1/4 thick abs plastic available at sign stores.

whats the 1/4 inch adapter plate for, i am thinking about getting a hds 8 and i have a 05 puma

The HDS-8 is too wide to fit in the given space flush because of the lower left corner and the raised lip on the entire right side of the console. The 1/4″ adapter is beveled in these areas to allow a flush mount.

There is not a factory bezel for an HDS 8 unit. BCB

Ecat, that is the first good looking mount of an HDS I have seen. I held off buying one to replace my 520 but now after seeing these photos I am really thinging about the HDS8. Not sure if i understand what you did but was it diffcult to do? Thanks
