Does Lynx need a hydraulic plate

I am looking at a moving from a Caracal to a Lynx and heard comments from some tournament guys at a recent boat show that some current owners feel the Lynx benefits more than other models from a hydraulic plate. I do not have one on my Caracal and have no experience with one. My top priority will be hole shot and handling….not maximum speed. I typically will not be operating the big motor in very shallow water. I am looking at the new 250 Pro XS 4 stroke as motor choice. The rig will not have PP or Talons.

I thought I have read in the past that BCB does not necessarily encourage the use of hydraulic plates but please correct me if that is not true. This rig will be a serious investment for me and the hydraulic plate is not a cheap option but I don’t want to be disappointed to not have one. So bottom line is a hydraulic plate a suggested investment given my criteria above?

We deal with a couple of failed hydraulic plates a week and manual plates don’t fail. Unless your in flat (shallow) water then the hole shot is not that much of an issue vs. the failure potential. All boats can improve their performance with a hydraulic plate, usually on the hole shot by raising it on hole shot then lowering it to run.

Thanks for that info and lines up with what I believed logically to be true in the absence of experience. If hole shot is my priority what prop would be recommended? I understand favoring hole shot could mean sacrificing top speed.vs going after a balance between the two.

I run an ’18 Lynx and have an Atlas plate on it. I use the plate a lot on mine, I run it all the way down at low speeds, up for holeshot, and about in the middle for top end. Of the 4 different BassCats I’ve had, this is the only one I felt really needs the hydraulic jackplate.

I have run a hydraulic plate on my last 5 rigs since 1988. I raise it for launching and loading. I always raise it when in shallow water and its great for getting on plane during tourneys from the back of shallow areas where others without a plate have to idle out with there motors tilted up. They also allow you to lower the plate in large waves for a better prop bite like 3 footers on Champlain. Just my advice GET ONE.

I have a Lynx with a Atlas hydraulic jackplate. I use each and every time to get up on plane. It helps tremendously with holeshot .
