My dad bought a new bass cat in 1989 pantera 2 with a 150 mariner on the back. He double oils the motor. Oil injection and puts it in the gas. Is this a good thing or a bad thing. The mariner 150 still runs great. My honest opinion is that he had a brand new suzuki 140 lock up because the oil injection holes were too small is why he does this, but he wont admit it. Thanks in advance

Back in the day oil pumps were known to be problems. The prevent locking up the engine due to oil pump fail, no oil, the injection system was disconnected and oil was mixed with the gas. In your dads case, he just using a sure enough prevention plan to keep from blowing his engine up in case the oil pump failed.

I ran a Merc 150 EFI a zillion hours on 93 octane with double oil. I left the oil injection in tact, & added oil to gas just like it didnt have oil injection. Smoked alot but never had any issues, never fouled a plug. I sold the boat locally & its still running, a testament to mercury, cause I “”didnt cut it no slack””!! , I ran it hard every time I went out. I am running “Premium Plus” oil now, (EFI 200) My Merc Man tells me that carbon does not build up with this oil. Time will tell .. Showdawg

I am running an OMC 200hp on my 1994 P2 and I run 100 to 1 oil in the gas that is just enough to keep from roasting the engine if the VRO pump fails, already had one quit after rebuilding the motor 2 years ago but it failed on the gas side motor runs great just smokes a little more than it should and it also keeps the skeeters away at the ramp on those warm summer mornings .
