Just wondering how everyone would of handled a DQ situation in our tournament today. We had a small tournament with about 11 boats on the Illinois river out of Peoria. The team that had the most wieght ( #18.51) ran through a no wake area by mistake this morning on accident. They didnt use this as an advantage to get to their spot. They werent leading the pack. When they came in a couple of guys protested them on their error after they weighed their fish . The next closest competitor had #11.25. They werent any written rules on how to handle the situation so the tournament director just DQd them. They really werent breaking a rule if there wasnt a rule I guess. No one is upset about the DQ just wondering how everyone would of handled the case. Of course this was my dad and his partner which should change my opinion, but at first I understood why the tournament director did what they did, now I am not so sure I agree. This tournament is ran very loosely and typically there are no problems. Just a shame that a record bag of fish for our river got wasted!!! Please let me know how everyone feels. Once again, not calling anyone out, just curious what everyones oppinions are.
seems petty to me..I fish some small pot turnys and we have just a few rules and thats it. Sad that losers gotta protest!
Tough one? No written rules? No means to protest? No violation occurred? Of course ethically one assumes a state regulation was violated. Tough call on either part.
BCB dead on the state rules violation. Thats what makes this one tough. I think it would have been a bigger deal if it wasnt at 5:30 in the morning. It was early enough that no one else was out.
No state business liscense ,all cash being paid what can really be done. Even if somebody cheated , or failed a polygraph ,nothing can be done . Cant really DQ your dad if he really wanted to get upset about it. All cash being paid ,no taxes being paid on the trnamnt . Your dad could protest and get his money if he wanted to but its not really worth all the trouble.
Our club if theres a protest it has to be brought to the attention of the tourney director BEFORE any fish are weighed in, if not you suck it up.
Unfortunately, Time for a few more written rules. Every club I have been in, the protest had to be before the fish are weighted. Godspeed
Cant do much about the DQ. But tell us how he cought 18+ lbs in Illinois. Thats an awsome catch! Pro-Tec Productswww.protecproducts.com
smbass wrote:still shouldnt be DQed maybe a darn glad i didnt get busted back there in the no wake or oops i missed that slow no wake bouy but a DQ. without written rules who says. exactally what is the directors role in this event besides weighing fish? just dont go back . see how they like only 9 boats My club usually handles things this way. We had an issue like this last year, and the directors got together and gave the guy a warning, but that was it. DQ is a little rediculous and seems like bad sportsmanship to me.- Chaz
So, by any chance was the protesters the ones that had 11. lbs?? With no rules in place, a warning would have been sufficient. Is there rules about obeying state laws?I think it was petty on the protesters part, but once done, it had to be addressed by the tournament director. This is one of those “dont kill the messenger” moments.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
