Drain plug for bilge – 2007 Sabre FTD

S/N – T0874C707I have the standard (aluminum?) insert in the bilge drain hole area. Current;y using the standard 1″ brass and rubber plug to plug the hole. Is there an alternative to the standard plug that can be inserted inside the tube without removing it? Plastic, brass, or SS screw type with retainer? The ones Ive looked at and purchased (and returned) dont fit inside the tube. I really dont want to remove the factory installed insert, but would if necessary, and recommended.Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure why you are wanting to change from the standard brass & rubber? Both my cats have taken a 1″ plug. I have used aluminum, brass, & stainless steel. It was the stainless stell which let me down last week. I think I will go back to the standard brass and just keep a couple extras in the glove box.Dan

I did have a plug retainer that was leaking around it back in the 80s and put the type you are talking about over the top of it, sealing underneath of it good before screwing it on. It cured that problem.Dan

Was looking to move to something similar to this version. Not saying the brass and rubber doesnt work. Just asking if someone produces a style similar to the one shown that fits in the factory installed tube.

I had one of these style in my ol caracal. Geesh it was a while back. Dnt remember where I bought it though Im sure it was from a local marine store. It was nice not having to worry about the plug it was always there right where it was suppose to be. The biggest down side was if u ever got water in the hull the smallest of pieces stop the hole up..other than that it was nice. Seem that I may have had to take a die grinder and remove some of the aluminium insert to the depth of the new plug insert and silicone liberally before install2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

That has been a couple of moons ago, but if I remember correct I just installed it without removing anything.Dan
