Drilling into the deck

I had wanted a rod strap on each side of the deck but I only got one which is the side I wouldn’t prefer. I’m going to buy and install the other side. I’m wondering how hard it is to drill into the deck and should I drill a pilot and then run the screw in. I don’t want to make a mess of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I alway predrill. I measure down in the threads with slide calipers. That size is my drill size. Before running the screw in i use soap on the threads as a friction reducers. Remember stainless is soft the hotter the screw is the more apt it is to twist off so go slow.

Easy to predrill, and hand tighten the screws.
