Saw a dual console Margay on Youtube and I was surprised how much I liked it. Doesnt seem to take much room away from the passenger and also hides the “rod bump”.Would love to see one in person.
There are very few Margay models with dual consoles. Try sending a picture to [email protected] and ask their opinion. Then they may be able to direct you in the right direction if they can see the issue. BCB
My dual console 2012 Margay. I havent experienced water coming through between the port console on any occasion other than when its raining. Center rod box has only gotten water only when I lift the lid after it rains, and the water drips off of the sides of the carpeted lid into the hatch.I did have my two front carpeted hatches completely flood. I am hoping that the latches needed some tightening, and have been somewhat gun-shy to fish in the rain since that time. I had a really nice marine stereo amplifier get completely covered in two inches of water, and of course it fried the amp.Last edited by cjrich on September 13th, 2014, 1:09 pm, edited 4 times in total.
Did you ever determine how the water got into the two compartments? Is there no drain in those compartments or a lip to divert the water someplace other than letting it build to the point of entering the boxes? Water entry in those boxes is unacceptable, IMO.Aside from that, how do you like the dual consoles in the Margay? Do you feel they get in the way more than they would on a larger boat? I am looking hard at the Margay, but would definitely want dual consoles so my passenger would be protected in bad weather or cold. Pros and Cons? Also, do you have any photos available looking at the boat from different angles so I can get a better idea of the general look of the DC Margay? As stated, there are very few of them, and finding a decent photo is all but impossible.Last edited by Midnight Rider on September 13th, 2014, 3:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
Midnight Rider,I ordered the port console prior to taking possession of the boat, so I have not fished it with a single console. I appreciate having the glove box. While I have not had opportunity to go from the front of the boat to the back while landing a fish, I cannot say that it has gotten in the way. I had a dual console on my last boat, and I fish frequently with my wife. She would not be satisfied without the port console. The boat has stayed dry in weather conditions so far, meaning that there has been no spray that the port console may or may not have shielded the passenger from if I had a single console. The boat rides very well and I have no issues with performance either. Plenty of hole shot and power for me.I was extremely disappointed, though, when the two front, carpeted hatches flooded. I would like to tell you that the water got 2 inches deep from simply having latches that needed to be tightened, and I sure hope that was the cause. I need to call the service department at BCB and ask if the rubber gourmets that are sold through the web site can fit over the lip that the hatch cover fits over. As I see it, when the boat is on plane in the rain; whatever water is in the channel will rush toward the back of the boat, and thus the water would then come over the lip and into the hatches. The hatches have no drain, and it took many days of keeping the lids up for them to dry out. I did purchase a new amplifier, but have yet to install it for fear that the hatches will flood once more. There is an issue, however, whereby the contact points where the latch bar on all of the locks is already beginning to wear away and crumble the fiber glass. So it would seem that this is a serious quality control issue to look at concerning future production years of this model. I surely hope that I am not to choose between flooded hatches, or fiberglass latch-bar contact points that will really cruble and wear away the fiberglass should I tighten them up. Either way … I lose.I did construct a post about the fiberglass / contact point issue and look forward to some produuctive feedback. I do have some opinions about having to jimmy-rig numerous issues on a boat that is ostensibly new, based upon very low hours on the water.I bought the boat with only 46 hours on the engine. The boat has lots of leaks within. Those hatches under the seats have a large rubber gourmet around the lip and they flood consistently. If it rains, those compartments flood. The small step-up cooler leaks, as does the live well when not in use. The center locker does stay dry, but when the lid is lifted water from the carpeted lid will pour into the hatch.I do appreciate all of the advice that is provided on this discussion board about how to go about investigating and fixing various leaks. However — many of those boats with internal leaks are from the 80s. 90s, or early 2000s.Here are the type of photos you were looking for.CraigYes, it is the Village Inn in Guntersville. Cjrich great looking boat, looks well equipped too. Here are my observations after 1 full year of ownership since brand new. I have fixed the port console as water was going down the channel and found its way throu a gap in the fiberfglass where the console meets the deck. It actually looks like the console may have been chipped before it was installed, I just put some epoxy in there and it seems to have addressed the issue. I spent a week up in Canada in June and encountered all kinds of weather and waves and I had the port carpeted box flood once and it took the whole week to dry out. My issue is that if you are on the trolling motor in chop and water comes over the bow it floods the channel on the deck, if it is too much water then it inevitably finds its way into the two carpeted boxes which is annoying. My center box does exactly what you said in heavy rain, the carpet gets saturated with water and when you open the box all the water drains or drips into the center box. I think on future designs the center box should have a drain that would solve the issue.I have not had any issues with latches however my center box did need to have a piece of metal affixed by pop rivets to the fiberglass as the latch would not cath the underside of the deck, to me that is a design flaw. Anyway this sounds like a rant but it is not I love the boat and it performs very well in all the other areas that I need out of it. It just seems to me that maybe the margay doesnt get the same attention paid to it as say a puma or eyra when it leaves the factory, but I understand at the price point that it is at I am ok with that.So far most of the little issues I have been able to fix and overall think the boat is still a homerun, I would however have changed some things had I ordered again. One thing is I would have ordered the minn kota vs the motorguide just to be able to lay more rods on the port side of the deck as the motorguide leaves little room, that and order bigger graphs from the start. All in all I am happy and would rather my boxes be a little wet than me like my experience in my old boat.
They are working to address the leakage on a regular basis, which some Margay models have seen, and inside of 45 days we hope a small alteration is determined. BCB
How hard would it be to develop a gasket that is simply bedded in sealant that runs the perimeter of the hatch? I design curtainwall systems which includes the development of aluminum extrusions and gaskets. A simple gasket such as the one shown below would form a good seal against the underside of the lid and provide another layer of protection against water infiltration. After I sketched this up, I noticed you guys already have a bit of a lip with fiberglass on the hatches, this would give it a nice seal. Make it with about 65 (+/-5) durometer silicone and seal up the splice and you will be able to run it around any hatch you build.
They have a general idea on a factory part. The lip exists and the lids are foamed to seal. After decades trying to get boats dry it often is something different on each.
Thank you!
Were in Canada, every bcb we sell has a dual console, or a removable 2nd console on our premium boats! Likely our youtube video you saw, yes a Margay with a dual console is pretty rare but also pretty cool. Every client that has seen it, cant believe how deep the glove box is.

Very well done. Nice walk through.
