Topic: Dumb livewell question

I have a P4 and was wondering where I need to plug my livewells so they hold water. Do I need to remove one of the screens in the bottom of the wells to access the drain hole? If so which one? I tried looking through some old posts and could not find the answer. Thanks in advance! Travis

The Passenger side live well has two plastic covers (screens), turn them counter clockwise to remove. The lower one is where your livewell drain plug is or shuld be. The upper one is for your pumpout or your recirc ( i cant remember which one the pump out/recirc one is), though the lower one i do know is the drain. Some folks dont ever use the plug, just rotate the switch below your throttle to the AUTO position and fill up your live wells as normal. I always use the plug in mine as I dont want to depend on that valve, even though i do switch it over to auto during events. If the plug is in, then I know it is holding the water in the live well. To drain rotate the switch to empty and remove the plug (if you use one), water will then drain out of the back of your boat next to the drain plug. JSLAW- Thanks for the quick response! You guys amaze me with your knowledge and willingness to help! I normally use the auto/empty valve but I want to use a plug for “insurance”, especially in a trailering tournament situation. Thanks again, Travis

Thanks JLAW, and he has given you good information there. If you start using the plug, then trash coming through without the screen will prevent the valve from working.

So do yall clean the valve periodically because of trash accumulation? If so whats the best way to clean it?
