E-LADDER MOTOR TO JACKPLATE BOLTS (QUESTION)

PURCHASED AN E-LADDED RECENTLY FOR THE PORT SIDE MOTOR. WENT TO LIKE 6 PLACES TRYING TO FIND FINE THREAD BOLTS TO BOLT THE E-LADDER TO THE MOTOR. PURCHASED COARSE THREAD BOLTS WITH A BRASS LOCKING NUTS AND THICK CASE HARDENED WASHERS. BOLTS ARE 2 1/2 LONG AND HAVE A SHOULDER ON THEM. THE BOLTS ARE NUMBERED F593C-THE I THINK THESE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A LOT STRONGER THAN REGULAR STAINLESS STEEL BOLTS. ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT ON THE NUMBERED BOLTS OR THEM BEING COARSE THREAD INSTEAD OF FINE I WOULD APPRICIATE IT.

We prefer fine thread, though just watch that the nuts stay tight.

Bolts and nuts is a deep issue. Generally fine thread is used in areas where loosening off is a problem. But with stainless this sometimes can cause a gaulding issue. Stainless bolts are graded by their carbon content. Stainless is generally soft. Carbon is added for strength. I assume that number crossreference to a stainless number. More than likely a 300 series. The higher the number the stronger it will be. This is why some stainless will attract a magnet.Im guessing the bolt u have is equilIvant yo a grade 5.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury

I believe I have the jackplate bolts you need. I bought a used E-Ladder, and I have an 07 SM backplate that wasnt pre-drilled, so I bought the motor bracket from R&R Design. The bolts I have are hex head with washers and Locktite on the threads. Does it require 3 fine thread bolts?Im going to be out of town until Thursday. Let me know if those will work for you and Ill send them to you. Just PM me a shipping address. Id like to see them put to good use.

RAZORCAT that is mighty nice of you to offer that but i finally found the right bolts & brass nuts & case hardened washers at a marine dealer here in town that were fine thread.

NORRIS CRAFT 1,We suggest that you use stainless nuts as we have seen dozens of the brass nuts break and split down the sides.

WOW That is unreal i believe what you say is true. And i will exchange them for stainless steel nuts. But i had a pretty high source tell me i better use the brass nuts or i would have problembs gaulding. This info came from another popular web site page. So i called NORRIS CRAFT BOATS and spoke to MR. RICHARD one of the owners and he told me the same as you are telling me. Not to use the brass nuts or my motor might be at the bottom of the lake ( QUESTION PLEASE ) Do i put anything like blue loc tite on the threads before i tighten them down or anything to prevent gaulding or anti seize or what would be the best. I hung up with NORRIS CRAFT before i could ask him the above question. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP MR. MODERATOR.

I always had a problem with stainless gaulding until I started putting just a bit of general purpose grease on the threads before putting the nut on. I believe I read that on here. Last stainless I installed, Vaseline worked great.
