Electronics Mounting Question

So I guess Im the really weird one, but I dont like to have my electronics mounted in dash as is so popular. So I guess here is my question, is there any pictures out there that will show what my dash may look like with a Ram Mounted Humminbird 997 instead of it mounted in dash? My reason is simple, I have owned my current boat for 6 years and changed electronics four times. I just dont want an issue with various sized holes in my dash. Thanks in advance! I dont yet own a Bass Cat but am looking really hard at a new Puma.

Judd (Basschaser) has his Ram mounted and will post a pic for you I am sure. His is a very neat set up and he, like you wants the ability to change electronics at his leisure without concern over cut out dimensions in his dash.

I will post those pictures for you tonite. I dont have them here at work they are on my computer at home. I do like the ram mount and have done that on my last 2 boats. What I like even more so than changing electronics and the cut out is being able to angle the 997 over so your partner can see it. I fish team stuff mainly and it is nice for them to see what we are fishing too. Judd Lasiter

We prefer in dash mounting, though the Pros have made Ram Mounts more popular with those large units, that dont fit in dash. Theft is another reason. While the front units are inset in the well, and harder to remove, those Ram Mounted units can be snatched in seconds.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on February 26th, 2008, 3:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Thanks for the thoughts on stolen units. Hadnt really thought about that. On another side I also felt that you lost a little from behind the wheel. I would welcome peoples thoughts. Do you notice yourself moving your head to look around the steering wheel. I sat in a Cougar with a 997 and felt like I couldnt see the whole screen. I also agree on others viewing the unit. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures. Thank you in advance!

The only real part that is behind the wheel is the digital readouts, where speed and depth as shown. You may have to cant your head slightly for that angle, though most we feel are very readable. BCB

I thought of doing that but… …The Garmin would sit up too tall over the windscreen and would obstruct my view a little too much but I want it near to my straight ahead line of sight where I can see it without moving my head and not way off to one side. and …nobody wants to steal that old thing when I leave it mounted in the boat whereas Id worry about the Hbird. But I really like it a lot, its simple and reliable, which is why I even still use it. Deke[font=&QUOT]Deke[/font]

While I see the point of a unit being stolen it is much easier to take the 787c off the front w/ the Hbird quick mount than this ram mount with the screw on the rear for the wires. You can remove them though pretty quick to disconnect the ram mount. On my last one I had the GPS puck mounted on the ram mount too and I would remove it every time it hit the trailer but this one isnt mounted the same. Good luck with whatever you decide. Judd
