Hi all, I have a Sabre FTD with Humminbird 727s. Im looking at the Humminbird 798. Which one should I buy 798c SI NVB or just 798c SI? Also, what should I put on the bow? Thanks in advance, Steven
1. Correct. The transducer is where the depth/image is produced. 2. Depends on what you want. Since you are not side-imaging, you can mount a transducer on the TM itself (this is what I am using) if you want the depth at that point. You can glass-in a transducer in the front of the boat if you can find access to the point where you want to take the depth reading.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Thanks, OT. I believe I will go with the transducer on the TM. By the way, I have been reading alot of your responses on here– Good stuff!!!
Normally the transducer on the jackplate is for the helm and there should be a transducer glassed into the hull (most of the time under the floor drain). It is not difficult to add another transducer to the foot of the troller. You put a clamp on the transducer and route the wire up the shaft and over to the bow fishfinder. Judd Lasiter
IF you do a lot of structure fishing and vertical spooning itll be worth putting one on the TM.
The front transducer is located midways between the console and bow recess. That rear one is the console unit unless ordered differently. BCB

Ive been considering adding a TM transducer to my Lowrance 520c on the bow. I like the glassed in transducer and the attention to detail in the installation of the electronics that BCB does, but Im thinking I would gain detail and overall noise reduction with a TM mount. Do you agree that it would be noticeably improved? John Helms Hot Springs, ARJohn Helms Hot Springs, AR
Well, if its working well, I know I much perfer to see right under me when Im at the front of the boat. But as far as detail and noise, Im not sure. I know theres negatives with having a external transducer on the TM. My old boat I cut the cable pulling up the motor (probaly due to sloppy cable management during instal). Ive heard, but havent expierenced a problem, electronic interferance with the TM. Also, if you hit stumps it can really mess-up your transducer. I think there are good workarounds for those proplems but if you do it Id pay attention to them.
I would buy the NVB model, due to the advanced mapping for the whole country. If you bought a couple of cards, you would spend more money than the NVB package would cost.
The NAV will have the better mapping. Also register the unit and look for down loads, Hummingbird released a software upgrade last week to add HD downscan to the units. It took about 5 minutes to download the update to the PC, copy to SD chip and upgrade unit.
Coorection on spelling – NVB model. I have the 788 on the front and have the Interlink module to share the waypoints between the units.
If your 727 can work with humminbirds Interlink box and get GPS data from the 798 ( I think it can) it will be just fine unless you want color. By Interlinking these two units you can reference (shared) waypoints on both units. This works great if you are structure fishing. For the more intense tournament fishing anglers some are adding SI units up front. However, it is not mandatory at all. Any bow mounted unit that can be interlinked will be enhanced. One other consideration. GPS capable units can display shared waypoints but they do not have map referencing to display. Having shore line maps does make it easier. Although , to put your electronics question in perspective my partner and I lead our tournament trail (88 boat field) most of the year out of my 2008 regular Sabre with 797cSI and 787c bow mounted sonar (no mapping) until I upgraded my boat to a PIV during the end of our season.
Thanks guys. Just the info I was looking for.
