Electronics upgrade coming

My 2009 Cougar is getting some new digital eyes in a few months. So, Im looking at existing models and weighing my options. Im leaning towards 10 inch up front and 12 inch at dash. I think Ill stick to Humminbirds.Can anyone explain/sell me on the dual screen setup up front or at the dash? I can see some advantages, but not Enough to justify the extra expense and the extra clutter.What advantages are ppl getting from dual displays? What am I missing?

Make sure to get the good models…. you know the fishfinders that show the hungry/empty belly bass and not just the full/not hungry ones

Depends on what youre trying to see and how much information you want. As long as youre looking at full screen, a single unit is great — but with the “want” to see more, Ive seen guys split the screen, either into 1/2 and two 1/4s, sometimes two 1/2s and sometimes 4 quarters. Each time you split, then you reduce the “seeable” side of the unit. With two units, you can split one to show sonar (only need a screen about 2″ wide as everything you see except what is coming off the right side is history) and the rest dedicated to Mapping. Then use the other to see either SI or SI/DI. Give a larger viewing area. This is the same reasoning that so many office workers have gone to dual or triple monitors instead of one large monitor. Youre the only one that can decide how much information youre wanting to see.John

Thats what I was guessing was the deal. I think Ill be ok with single unit.

Ham,I think youll catch just as many on the ned rig iwith two depth finders in the boat versus having four, lol!!

I ended up with a Helix 10 DI Mega up front ona beefy RAM mount. I put a Helix 9 SI Mega in the dash boat a Sherm’s Mount. Very happy with the Sherm’s mount.I did get Ethernet connections so the units can communicate.I used Marine Repair Center in Springfield, MO to do the install. I was very Happy with the work they did.I’ve only had the boat out once since the install, but it’s a whole new world. The new units with Mega DI show you brush piles so well. It’s crazy. The larger screens really make split screens a functional a useful tool.Happy, Happy, Happy so far.

Congrats on the setup! Those Helix are great. Now get out there and dial em in on some brush piles…….and anything else you find!
