Topic: emergency brake on trailer help

I have searched the forum and can not find the answer so here goes:I took my friend fishing, we had an hour drive to the lake then an hour long drive home, all was good when we pulled into his house to unload his stuff. Drove around 4 miles to my house and my passenger side (truck) wheel was smoking a lot when I pulled in my driveway. Found my emergency cable on the trailer was pulled out past the keeper deal. I can only guess that him or I had caught it when stepping over the trailer tongue to get his stuff. I released the cable but my brake is still tight. I realize I probably fried the brakes and no telling what else. I am not a good mechanic and just want to take it to the shop but how can I get this to release. I read on here about a tab under the coupler but I dont have that. It is a 1999 model single axle with surge brakes. Pantera classic sitting on it.I have jacked up the trailer and the wheel will turn but it is really hard to do.Thanks in advanceGreg

It should release and turning corners in a parking lot situation may loosen it without needing work. If not then lock it out (coupler) and tow it to a garage or dealer when you can. Pretty simple system overall.

Also heat can indicate thatnthey are working the same in unison. If one is still hot you could have an issue, though we mean hot and not warm.

Wow quick reply, thanks. Are you saying that I should be OK like it is to get to a dealer? It was smoking and REALLY HOT when I got home after only 4 miles. (It smoked for about 15 minutes or so)and it was way too hot to touch the wheel. When I released the cable there didnt seem to be any difference at all. The trailer is sitting in my garage right now and as soon as we get a clear day I want to run it in somewhere to get it looked at but it is going to be maybe a 10 mile drive. Once you loosen the caliper, either manually or by natural driving, then the pressure should be off the caliper. You can lock the coupler out if you squeeze the caliper off the rotor and pads and there should be no brake pressure. If the emergency cable is taught, your goingnto have brakes dragging as you had. They have no telexes other than the manual button under the left side of the coupler.
