HEY GUYS NEED YOUR HELP. 2007 PANTERA IV WITH 200 OPTIMAX 25 TROPHY PROP. CAN NOT LOWER MOTOR ANY MORE DUE TO HYDRAULIC STEERING ARM. BOAT JUMPS OUT OF HOLE. QUESTION. BOAT GETS UP TO 65 MPH WITH 5400 RPMS. 35 GAL FUEL, LIVEWELL FULL 2 PERSONS. THIS LAST ABOUT A MINUTE THEN IT DROPS BACK TO 57-58 MPH WITH 5000 RPMS. LIKE A GOVERNOR IS ON IT . POP OPEN GAS CAP NO CHANGE. MOTOR WAS JUST SERVICE WHEN I BOUGHT IT MARCH 2009. SHOULD I GO DOWN TO A 24 PITCH PROP SO MY RPMS IS HIGHER. BUT I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY IT WILL GO 65 THEN FALLS DOWN TO 57-58 MPH. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
That is an issue. Dont spend money on props. That needs to goto a service shop until its fixed. In my minimally educated opinion there is no “good” reason a boat shoud slow down. The only reason I can remotely think of is the trim. If you are losing hydraulics on the trim unit and the trim is going down after you get it up and running itll slow like that but I assume youd notice that when you looked at your trim gauge or on your smartcraft trim gauge.C.O.D. Sounds like the electrical system, stator to us? It is definitely electrical in issue. The problem may be checked by the voltage on the gauges. If your over about 14.2 running, or under 12.4 something is up! BCB
just talked to the dealership. going to bring it in. they think maybe a coil dropping out or maybe the stator like you said. what should i expect as for as the speed in a pantera iv loaded out when the motor is running good?
I had a similar problem with my 02 merc 250xb and it turned out to be deteriorated fuel lines. I would run like a raped ape for a couple of minutes then I would lose about 400 rpms and couldnt gain them back no matter what I tried. My mechanic said that ethanol based fuels deteriorated the inner fuel line and would “flap over”and restrict fuel flow.Approximate $275 repair if my memory is right.
THANKS KBGFISH, I WILL FORWARD THIS TO MY REPAIR SHOP. THE ENGINE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND STABIBLIZER IS USE EVERY TIME (BLUE TYPE) DO YOU KNOW IF THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY?
I dont know enough about the warranty info to comment . Have your mechanic check out the electrical system first as advised by BCB and if its fine, go on to the fuel system. Hope you get her straightened out soon ,Good luck
